Update: Hospitalized Britney in 72-hour Lockdown Following Custody Standoff
Britney Spears by John Shearer/ WireImage.com
What started out as a typically self-destructive day for Britney Spears escalated into a heated standoff at her home involving police, EMTs and media helicopters hovering over the scene. Hours later, Spears — strapped to a gurney but smiling — was taken to L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (watch ambulance video here, courtesy CelebTV.com).
Earlier on Thursday, Spears showed up for the court-ordered deposition she had shrugged off multiple times before — albeit two hours late. Thus, she was only able to give ex-husband Kevin Federline's lawyers some 12 minutes of her time. Then last night, starting at 8 pm, K-Fed's bodyguards arrived at Brit's house to claim the kids for Dad's scheduled visitation. Spears, though, refused to turn them over, igniting a standoff that lasted until 10:50 and necessitated the arrival of six police cars — court-dispatched to settle the sitch "peacefully" — an ambulance and a fire truck. "[The court-appointed monitor] had already put [2-1/2-year-old son] Preston in the car when Britney locked herself in a room with Jayden," a source tells People. "The cops came and got through the door and tied her down to a gurney."
Spears — who was said to have been under the influence of "an unknown substance" throughout the dispute, but by some new accounts has tested clean of drugs — was taken to Cedars-Sinai where, a source tells Us, she was will be on lockdown for 72 hours as a "special needs" patient, meaning she is believed to "have either overdosed or tried to commit suicide."
What's your take? I think it goes without saying that the time for eye-rolling is over. Britney is sick, and no kid deserves an ill mother. What, if anything, can turn her life around at this point?
Reflect on Britney's simpler days with our photo gallery and video clips.

Sorry, Matt, I just don't care any more. I feel bad for those two kids. That's it. If I never read another word about Brit I wouldn't miss her.

Matt, like GarrickS, I just don't care about Britney anymore.
The only way for her to have any kind of life, though, is for someone to be appointed as guardian and handle everything for her - leaving her without access to money or anything she needs to feed her "habits."
Maybe that would help.

I'm with you, Matt. I felt the same way about Lindsay Lohan for awhile. I kept thinking I was going to wake up one morning to find out one of them was dead. I wish someone cared enough about her to lock her up, like Tazzy said, keeping her away from everything until she can be straightened out. I'm sure some people have tried but if she doesn't want the help and with her money... I just hope the kids are taken away this time until she gets some help.

More than anything, this is just sad. I keep on thinking she's going to end up as some Marilyn Monroe tragic story - how much longer will she be with us? And what also makes me wonder- how will she be remembered?
It just might be too late for her to get her life on track... it's a shame.

I care about this, since as Matt said, Britney is obviously a very sick person and I don't wish to see ANYONE like this. At first, I was one of those people who assumed that Britney was just being immature and needed to grow up and take responsibility. That time was long ago though. She obviously has mental problems and I hope to God that she gets the help she needs now. Problems like this happen all over the country and people can and do change their ways. Britney needs to be hospitalized for as long as it takes to help her and maybe this is finally what it will take.

My take on this?
BIG F-----G DEAL!
Why does TV Guide insist on reporting these idiotic "news flashes" about these idiotic bimbos?
I DON'T CARE! Why is this news in ANY sense of the word?
Give us TELEVISION news! Give us interviews with the stars who are on TELEVISION series! If the writers strike makes for slim journalistic pickings for you, give us retrospective stories about past TV glories and memorable people or programs!

It is time for the jokes to stop. I don't understand why people can't figure it out. It appears she has post partem depression, and coupled with the divorce she is just depressed in general. Sure she's acting out and partying and "smiling", but she's taking substances (probably to numb the pain). I would bet that she had an idealized view of how her life would be (married with kids), since before her life had been so charmed, and the reality hit her harder than she expected. She has tried escape techniques that are harmful to her health and her family. I just feel bad for the whole situation. I hope she gets the help and diagnosis she needs to recover. It's not funny, she needs help.

There are plenty of people concerned about Britney and her boys, but unfortunately, most of them don't know her and have no influence over her. I truly have no idea if she can come back from her descent into a national joke, but I hope that her boys will get some stability and sanity in their lives, before they're permanently damaged from Brit's apparently haphazard and harmful parenting.
On a board that I visit, the question "Which celebrity child would you take for a day?" was posed. The majority chose Britney's boys.

Garry B if you don't care why did you bother to post a comment. Obviously you read the story otherwise you wouldn't have posted.
Agreed I am sick of Britney but like other posters said she needs help and those kids do not deserve to be pawns in this silly dispute. Put them in a stable home and leave them there.

Federline may not be parent of the year, but at least the kids don't appear to be in physical danger when in his custody.
And it appears that Britney Spears needs significant psychiatric help. Pronto.

I don't know GarryB- I understand that you want to hear TV news and you have a right to your opinion. But this site has changed and I don't know that it will change back into what you want, so it might be better to find another site to obtain what you are looking for.

GarryB and everyone else who said you don't care. Why are you reading this article if you don't have any interest? TVGuide and the other news outlets report what is wanted by the news consumer. By clicking on the story, you told them that you are interested. If you don't want stories about assorted people who obviously have some very serious problems (Bi-polar, drug addiction, what-have-you) then don't read the story. It's really that simple. Don't criticize the magazine because you didn't have the self control to not read the story.
