Ugly Betty Forced Back into Traveling Pants

According to the Hollywood Reporter, America Ferrera is being squeezed into a sequel to Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, much to her chagrin. During her ABC hit's hiatus, the actress had wanted to do the film An Invisible Sign of My Own for Betty producer/pal Salma Hayek, but the producers of Pants have the option to force her to do a sequel, and now that she's a bigger star than Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn combined, doggone it, that's exactly what they're doing.

bigger star in what, waistsize? Tasteless joke aside, but come on all actresses are probably on the same level of stardom :_|

I think you are being a bit sensitive. I think he just meant that America Ferrera is now much more accomplished that Alexis and Amber. I mean think about. Only a cross-section of people watch Gilmore Girls, but even if you don't watch Ugly Betty, you have probably heard of America because of all the cross-promotion like magazine covers, interviews and such, making her a bigger star.

I think America is a bigger star than Amber and Alexis. She's won awards. UB has won awards. It has nothing to do with her pants' size.

It's too bad they're forcing her to do the film. Are the other three girls returning as well?

I wonder if the other two girls are being forced to be in the movie as well. Maybe if all three say they don't want to make the movie, the studio will back off.

No, I definitely think America is a bigger star than Amber Tamblyn and probably Alexis Bledel. Despite the fact that Gilmore Girls is the most popular show on THIS site, it only gets like half, sometimes even a third of the audience that Ugly Betty and Alexis is second banana to Lauren Graham while America is the star of her show.

Poor America. The first movie was lukewarm at best, a sequel is not promising.

I'm glad they're doing it. I wish they didn't have to force America into coming back to the role, that doesn't make it a good experience for anyone, but I looove the books and thought the first movie was pretty good. I'm sure that all the actresses had clauses in their contracts that obligated them to do another movie, but they did sign on the dotted line...America can't get THAT upset, this was something she agreed to.

And she's definitely a bigger star than Alexis and Amber, no contest. Most people have either heard of her or the show at this point, the other girls don't have the same name-recognition.

I agree with everybody, America is a much much bigger star than Alexis and Amber. And I'm a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan but have respected America since Real Women Have Curves. I haven't heard of anything that Alexis has won while America has gotten the Golden Globe, the SAG and I'll bet my bottom dollar the Emmy later this year.

I loved the first movie in a teenybopper kind of way but would never have thought there would be a sequel. Weird...

Keep your head up America, even if it tanks we all know you were forced. ;)

I just read somewhere else that some of the movie will be filmed in Greece. If nothing else, America will be able to enjoy the scenery.

You never heard of "talent". I think America is great!:-D

The first film was filmed partly in Greece and Alexis got to go to Greece, not America. The four girls had different summers and the movie followed the girls during their adventures.

I kinda doubt America will be going to Greece. Her story took place in Georgia, maybe. Now, if she comes to Maryland to film (where the girls are supposed to live), I'll invite her over.

typical tabloid hyperbole. shameful that TV guide has sunk so low.

it's SOP when signing on talent for something that could be a franchise (there were at least two Pants books when the movie project started so they knew it was possible) to sign them to an option that would require them to appear in all movies done. no one wants to recast roles if they can keep from it.

and yes they would have done this with all four girls.

it stinks that now, when America has another project in her sights, they decide to activate the option but they did. it's the nature of the game.
and who knows what could happen. it's entirely possible that schedules will be worked out so she cna do both.
