TV Guide Exclusive: How Mother Got a Piece of Britney
Cover courtesy TV Guide
Britney Spears' visit to How I Met Your Mother certainly has brought some quick buzz to the post-strike season. The March 24 issue of TV Guide went behind the scenes to get the scoop on the pop star's surprise sitcom gig; the exclusive cover story with posed Josh Radnor/Brit pic will be on newsstands this week (watch a clip of Britney and Neil Patrick Harris' Barney here).
Talking to the Mother cast last Thursday at their return party, it became clear that each wanted a "piece" of her — or, at least, admired the pieces she brought to the show.
Jason Segel gushed, "She was just unbelievable. She had her lines memorized, jokes ready, and she killed it. And she's beautiful."
Neil Patrick Harris, meanwhile, was surprised that Spears agreed to come on the show at all. "I didn't think she'd have the time to do it," he confessed. "I kept laughing, saying, 'You're serious? She's actually going to do it?'"
Adds Alyson Hannigan, "[Britney] was sweet and funny. It was surprisingly normal." For Cobie Smulders, the combo of Brit and the March 24 episode's other big guest star, Sarah Chalke, was anything but toxic. Smulders (like Chalke, a Canuck) said, "Sarah is so funny, so nice, and she's the coolest chick. I know she seems like the coolest chick, but [she really is]."
For the inside story on how Britney came to meet Mother, check out the March 24 issue of TV Guide, on newsstands this week. The premiere airs tonight at 8:30 pm/ET on CBS. — Anna Dimond

that is sad if "britney" is considered one of the show's most buzz worthy moments in its history, just sad

you can say whatever you want about Britney but if it wasn't because of her guest spot people wouldn't be talking this much about the show... and the buzz right now is higher because it seems like Britney did a good job. Early reports about her casting were very "huh?" but after the first meeting and cast interviews they morphed into "really?!"

The important thing is to be talked about? How about making the show funny again because this season has been a biiiig letdown?
R.I.P. HIMYM
Loved ya.

As much as you don't want to admit it or don't want it to be true, ratings ARE very important. This show is fantastic and hilarious, and I want it back. Britney shows up for ONE episode and people act like it's ruining the show. People, it's just letting people know that HIMYM exists!

Look at it this way, at least it wasn't Paris Hilton! Oh, and I'm jonesing to see Sarah Chalke in a role outside "Scrubs". And with fellow Canadian Cobie Smulders to boot!

If they can make it funny again. If it's only as funny as the first half of this season (or, god forbid, worse), then Chalke is going to waste (along with Cobie... whom I adore).

Yes, by all means, let's just ASSUME the show is going to crash and burn before we actually see the new episodes start rolling out. Hell, why wait, let's just stop watching the show now with the expectation that well, it's probably going to suck anyway, let's not actually give it a chance!
Jesus people, you really need to grow up. Have you heard of something called OPTIMISM??? I'm so sick of all you people whining about how the show has changed and it's not the same anymore and it's jumping the shark. Well what the hell, if you don't like how the show is going, STOP WATCHING IT and stop writing in these forums about how abysmal you think the show has become. Yes, alright already, we get it, you're not happy with the show anymore, but guess what, there are a lot of us out there that still DO enjoy the show. People just aren't happy unless they're complaining about something. It's very immature.

I have to agree with you, Lavender Ash. Although I mostly enjoy the blogs, it bothers me that they might be having an influence on the way shows go creatively.
Blogs such as these make viewers think they have a say in what happens in their favorite shows. They don't and they shouldn't. Creators have a vision for a show, and if it doesn't follow the very narrow parameters of some fans, they whine and claim that they'll bail (but they never do). Gilmore Girls fans were the most blatant example of this.
How about you just sit back and enjoy where the show goes. You really don't have any right to dictate the direction a show takes, no matter how devoted a fan you claim to be. If you want that kind of control, create your own damn show!!!
Thank goodness blogs weren't around in Shakespeare's time.

Ok, I'll have to admit when I first heard about the Britney casting coup, saying I was a bit dubious would be a gross understatement. I think I was actually more peeved b/c people were unnecessarily attacking Alicia Silverstone). Of course I have to wait and see how the ep turns out, but, which wine goes best with the crow?

This is such a last gasp for a sinking ship. This show was done, on life support, and now TV Guide is trying its best to pump this dead show back to life by overpromoting a guest appearance by someone who isn't relevant at all and who isn't an actress. Thanks for finally giving me a reason to cancel my subscripition to your magazine.
If this boring show that has never really caught on still gets cancelled does TV Guide lose something? By the way, who is Josh Radnor, has he ever been in anything I may have seen?
