HBO has sunk its teeth into an order for the True Blood series, Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball's new drama based on Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire novels. Set in a world where vamps can live off Japanese-produced synthetic blood, the TV adaptation stars Brit Stephen Moyer (Quills) as a vampire who falls for a waitress (Anna Paquin) who can read people's minds. Though a premiere plan has yet to be detailed, production starts this fall.

When I first read that Alan Ball was going to create an HBO series based on Charlene Harris' "Sookie Stackhouse" books, I ran to the library and read all the books. This is now my favorite book series. I haven't been able to get into any of the other supernatural book series I've checked out.

But I really like the universe Ms. Harris has created. The characters are interesting and well drawn, and I think they will translate to a visual medium very well.

I'm really, REALLY looking forward to this.

So am I, Karen! The only problem is I don't get HBO...but surely I have a friend who does!

I think I enjoyed the first 4 books more than the last few...but only because of certain characters not being focused on as much in the later books. Not a Quinn fan. Babe. Babe. Babe. Blah!

This "news" is not new. Come on, give us some real news! This series was announced in the fall of 2005 and the casting announcements have been in the Hollywood Reporter in February and April. The author has had pictures on her website since at least April or May of the set being built. How about something new?

I think the news part of it is that they have set a production start date. Yes there was already a cast and there were photos of the diner set but with HBO you can never be fully sure when they are going to start productions on a series.

I just found about this series a couple of days ago on accident while reading about HBO purchasin the rights to A Song of Ice and Fire book series. So this is news to a lot of people.

I just finished watching Six Feet Under on DVD and I will definitly check this show out when it premiers sometime (hopefully) in 2008.

Thank you, Chris, for your reading comprehension. :-D

Hmm.. This seems like an interesting show and if it's on HBO then it probably is. I mean besides John from Cincinatti HBO has produced some of my favorites and I love Alan Ball. Six Feet Under was brilliant. May it rest in peace.
Also it better be good ha ha because I heard Raelle Tucker, the writter for some of my favorite episodes of Supernatural will be writting on this show. So I guess I will definetly toon in.

With the freedom that HBO can give to a show, this sounds awesome!

Sex, drugs and violence on HBO - WINNER!

I've read all the books and they are among my favorites for vampire, shapeshifter and fairy characters plus Sookie Stackhouse rules! I really hope HBO does this series and that is it well done.

if HBO follows their current scheme they will probably start it in March or even June of next year. they seem to be doing well with airing shows out of the network season plus they have a habit of filming the whole season before anything airs.

I've read every one of these books with great great pleasure. However, I was very disappointed with the choice of actress. Anna is a great actress, I'm sure, but a BAD choice for this character. She seems too young, and her face and figure just don't match the character either. I'm quite bummed about this.

Not a Quinn fan?? I'd rather see Sookie with Quinn than with Bill. Or than with Eric.

I really hope they make this show available on iTMS quickly, as I'm not real interested in paying $600/year plus whatever HBO costs just to get this one show.
