Mega Buzz on Without a Trace, Kyle XY & More!
Anthony LaPaglia by Cliff Lipson/ CBS; Matt Dallas by Eike Schroter/ABC Family; Amanda Tapping by Eike Schroter/Sci Fi Channel
Do you have any scoop on Without a Trace? Anything on the big "You don't have to [raise your baby] alone anymore" comment made by Jack to Sam on the season finale? Will we be getting more "Smack"? — Shannon Matt Mitovich: This does not bode well — there's not a lick of baby talk in any of the first three episodes being shot this summer.
Could you please give the world some scoop on Kyle XY? I heard it is not returning until January 2009, and it's only 12 episodes! – Kyle Mitovich: The "January 2009" part is correct. Alas, only 10 episodes are on the books right now (though I am hearing that run could be extended). FYI, Season 3 will pick up right at the prom.
Dude, it's been ages since we've had any Prison Break scoop! What gives? – Adie Mitovich: Ages?! You've gotten Cress Williams, Michael Rapaport, a yet-to-be-cast computer wonk.... Oh wait, the computer wonk has been cast — with James Hiroyuki Liao.
Is Provenza going to be the casualty on The Closer since an upcoming episode is titled "Dial M for Provenza"? — Becca Mitovich: Kyra Sedgwick shared just the other day that this season, "Almost every character will have a show that's about them and something that happens with them," so I'm reckoning "Dial M" is simply a "Pro"-venza episode.
I'm apparently one of the nine people who actually enjoyed Joey, the Friends spin-off. Rumor has it that several episodes were taped but never aired. Is there any truth to this? – Matt in N.J. Mitovich: "They're on the Season 2 DVD set," says Gord of TVShowsOnDVD.com, "but that's only available in Canada." Grab me a Molson while you're there, Matt... LeBlanc?
Who is going to take over the ADA role on Law & Order: SVU? — Cheeks Mitovich: Neither Brooke nor Peyton!
What are my chances of getting some Stargate Atlantis scoop? — Linda Mitovich: Very good, they are! (Oops, I Yoda'd there for a second.) For one, that rumor about the 100th outing being set in Earthly Las Vegas has some teeth to it. "We've yet to break the episode," says exec producer Joseph Mallozzi. "[But] in our initial spinning, we have discussed the possibility of having the best of both worlds — or galaxies, as the case may be." That's just one of more than 20 TVGuide.com reader questions Mallozzi answered for me the other day. Watch for the rest as Premiere Night nears.
I keep reading conflicting stories about if, when and where Friday Night Lights will return. I've heard cable TV, and back on NBC. What is the truth? – Tammy Mitovich: FNL's Season 3 kick-off arrives Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 9 pm/ET, on DirecTV's "The 101 Network." NBC will then rebroadcast the episodes as part of its "winter schedule," which technically means "as early as January," though I keep hearing "no sooner than February.".
I am excited that Weeds is back but it has me wondering where my two other favorite Showtime programs are. Do you know when we will get new episodes of Californication and Brotherhood? It doesn't feel like summer without them! – Tiffany Mitovich: I suggest you come up with a new word to describe the next few months. Duchovny & Co. aren't expected back on our screens until September, while Brotherhood may not arrive until November.
Summer is coming and I am really looking forward to the next season of Damages. Any idea when it is coming back? – Cassie Mitovich: "Early 2009" is as far as FX will narrow the window. (You may want to commiserate with Tiffany from above this aprés-spring.)
I'll send you a batch of my addictive peanut butter cookies (with Hershey kisses on top) for just a tiny bit of scoop on Ghost Whisperer. Perhaps an explanation as to why Jay Mohr has a sitcom coming out this fall when he's still alive and kicking on my favorite Friday night show? – Hillary Mitovich: I do love me some peanut butter! I got you this, straight from executive producer PK Simonds: "The cast, crew, producers and writers of Ghost Whisperer will always love Jay Mohr and the wonderful character he helped create. While his character will move to the background on our show as he launches his own new series on CBS, we look forward to working with him again as time, schedules and storytelling allow."
Regarding NCIS, can you find out whether Director Shepard's father is alive or dead? Were the fingerprints found in her study just a red herring? — dorlancaster Mitovich: Jenny's father, like Jenny herself, is most definitely dead, an NCIS rep assures me. The fingerprints and the claim by the Russian General that her dad was still alive were part of a ploy organized by Kort (who was investigating La Grenouille for the CIA) to discredit Jenny and have her booted from NCIS, thus ending her investigation into "The Frog."
This Week's Mega Rave: If you think Mad Men is cool, grab this week's Advertising Age — and then flip it over. The "back" of the issue is a 12-page edition of the mag written as if it was June 1960 and featuring a profile of the surging Sterling Cooper agency, complete with a Don Draper Q&A. Other neato anachronisms include a chart on rising ciggy sales and a story on the ADA approving Crest as a dentifrice. All told, it's the cat's pajamas!
This Week's Mini Rant: America's Got Talent? Cheesy. The incessant in-program promos for Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Crackers? Even cheesier. Reader Quote of the Week: "Oh lawdy, what to do? Buy the Sopranos DVD box set or fill up my car with gas? Choices, choices." (DS9Sisko, re: the HBO series' $400 complete DVD set)
Coming next week: Mega Buzz demands mega manpower! Senior editor Mickey O'Connor — he of the admirably unorthodox takes on entertainment news and author of sassy MP3 reviews — will join me in answering your questions and delivering scoop on your fave shows. Drop us a line at mega_scoop@tvguide.com.

I find America's Got Talent at least has a heart of sorts. I agree cheesy - but American Idol could grow a soul and be more like AGT and it would help it a lot!

Dear Matt:
I'm sure you've got a thousand balls up in the air there at TV Guide, but would you please make this Q & A column a more regular thing? I find I'm missing the old twice-weekly Ausiello column, and your writing in particular is filling that need. (And I apologize if your Q & A has been that frequent and I never previously noticed. Mea culpa . . .)
I actually like your style of writing better (more facts, and not as much self-aggrandizement), but in the interests of keeping the writer happy, do I understand correctly that peanut butter is your thing?
And finally, about Ausiello . . . can you guys please take his columns/name off the drop-down banner under NEWS + VIEWS and perhaps put yours instead? No disrespect to Mike, but he's moved on, and it would make my life so much easier . . .
Keep up the good work! Thanks!

I'm glad to see the end of the whole Frog/Jenny storyline on NCIS. I can't say I'm sad to see stone faced Jenny go either. Poor Jenny, she was left alone in that abandoned diner because her stand-off buddy had to go "get some fresh water for tea." It figures that the minute he leaves her alone the place got shot up to bits. The NCIS guys better watch out: if they ever find themselves left alone because the rest of the team has gone off to "mix up a fresh jug of Crystal Lite" then that is fair warning that an ambush is a'comin'.

If they ever get rid of Jim on Ghost Whisperer for any reason (hopefully a good one) then it would be cute if Jay Mohr's professor hooked up with Melinda. They have such amazing chemistry on the show. I love to see them spar and GW is the first show that I've actually adored Jay Mohr. He plays that widowed professor with the smart mouth so well. I hope he continues to do both shows.

It would seem that way, yes? Take note, furture TVGuide.com job applicants!

NGH — not gonna happen. (See news story from Tuesday.)
I find America's Got Talent at least has a heart of sorts. [If] American Idol could grow a soul and be more like AGT, it would help it a lot!
ITA! My Mega Rave this week originally was directed at AGT, but then my wife's Ad Age came in the mail.

I have to agree on the cheesey-ness og AGT, and the audience booing people is repulsive. BUT, I have to say, last night's show had some REALLY amazing talent. There were two or three acts who blew me away, and they had these amazingly heart-wrenching stories to boot. I saw more impressive talent in that one night of television than I saw in the last three seasons of idol.

I can see we have some MAJOR brown nosers out there that appear to be putting down Aussiello's STYLE....at least he HAS a style!! Time will tell what Matt's is. I have been wondering why all of the news says, "edited by Matt Webb Mitovich." Does that mean that he is not getting the scoop on his own? He is not worthy of his own COLUMN? I agree that Ausiello's column's should be in "archive" and Matt should get his own name up there! And for the record, Matt is going to have to get some MAJOR SCOOP of his OWN and I mean MAJOR for this SCOOPER to say "well done!"

Atlantis in Las Vegas? Ugh. I quit watching when they fired Paul McGillion and Torri Higginson. Watched one episode with Jewel Staite (who replaced Paul) and she was so awful, it was unwatchable (and I loved her in Firefly - go figure). With Mallozzi gushing about upcoming love triangles, supah-hawt all-girls military teams, and now this Las Vegas mumbo jumbo, I'm glad I gave it up.
Can't wait for new "Damages" though!

Thanks, Matt, for clarifying things on NCIS. I know I was still confused.
Can we call the IT guys and get you your very own corner of the site? Roush has his. Ausiello had one. Maitland even has one! Come on, IT, get with the program already!
Oh and welcome, Mickey!

Brown-nosers? Just because someone doesn't like having someone who is obnoxiously self-indulant reporting the news does not make one a brown-noser. I never cared for Ausiello - notice I'm not one who followed him to whatever magazine he went to. Yes, I read his column but that's because I wanted to read scoop and I like the other columnists at TV Guide. I got sick and tired of having to read every single bit of scoop because he'd bury something that I wanted to know about in the middle of an answer for a completely different show that I cared nothing for.
And furthermore you know what? Its also not brown-nosing to tell someone who is doing a good job that he or she is doing a good job. For some reason some of the readers of TVGuide.com love to tear down the columinists for every little itsy bitsy thing they do wrong. So why is it so wrong to tell someone they are doing something right?!?!

Yeah, Jay Mohr will be back on Ghost Whisperer right after his lame sitcom is canceled.
