Torchwood's Season 3? We Do Know Jack

Tired of all the rumors surrounding Torchwood's future, TVGuide.com went directly to the rift, er, Cardiff, Wales, to learn if the truth was out there.

Well, 'Woodies (or Torchies, if you prefer), scripts for Season 3 are currently being developed and filming should start in the middle of August for airing on BBC1 in the spring of 2009. Best news of all, John Barrowman will return as the dashing bi-sexual adventurer. Though keeping more details close to the vest, executive producer Julie Gardner vows that fans "will be pleased with the casting." That better mean Eve Myles is returning!

Fans, however, may not be so happy with the mere five hours slated for next season. "We've decided to do a five-part mini-series, one big story that will run during one week," says Gardner, adding, "I wanted to make a really big noise about the show."

So far, the BBC has only green lit these five hours, but there could be more, we're told. When (or even whether) BBC America will run the mini-series has yet to be decided. — Ileane Rudolph

I really hope they do air them on BBC America. This is one of the few shows left on tv that I look forward to.

Since we were so lucky to get Seasons 1 and 2 so close together on BBCA, it's going to be difficult to wait for the spring!

Although I hate the idea of only having 5 hours, British shows seem to understand when to stop before things run dry and overstay their welcome. I'd love to see more American shows exercise this restraint.

Only 5 hours? NO!! We need a full third season of Torchwood. That show rocks!

I hope that BBCAmerica runs the show as soon as it's available. Since SCI-FI is running the new season of Dr Who, perhaps they'll pick it up. Either way, I hope that the BBC does give us a full season. If not this year, perhaps next. Maybe something will happen with the rift and bring back Owen and Toshiko

and with the deaths of Owen and Toshiko, Gareth David-Lloyd's Ianto had best be returning as well! And I'm not opposed to adding Freema Agyeman to the cast as the Medical officer!

Don't you think that if anything about series three had been said it would turn up on the bbc's torchwood websites?

Good news that Torchwood is coming back, but I wish it were for a full season. Next year both Torchwood and Doctor Who will not have full seasons. Oh well, at least they're giving us something!

It would be nice if for once one of my favorite shows actually stayed on the air. Why would be BBCA give us seasons 1 and 2 and then not 3? Money I guess. Please BBCA give us more Torchwood and BBC please do more than 5 hours. This year of my 3 favorite shows 2 (Moonlight and Jericho) were cancelled so please keep this one on in the US.

Torchwood was/is one of BBCA's bigger hits, so I'd be really surprised if they didn't carry season 3. It's probably just too early for any definite decisions to have been made yet.

Maybe because of the shocking cast massacre that happened this is something like Dr. Who's Christmas stand alone episodes that will bridge a gap for us and while we will have to wait for a bit for the full Season Three, once it is done we will not think of it as Season Three. But like this will be how Martha leaves the Unit and with her fiancee Tom becomes the two new members of Torchwood. Like how the Doctor basically declared himself to be, well, a little darker in the ship over London episode and the fact that someone actually died in the Titantic episode and I was crying. But, the Doctor had to be a little more ready to be crueler in Martha's season and there is a very sad air about Donna's season (though very funny). Just my thought.

Five hours?

Do we know for certain if the 5 hour series/season is the last? As an absolutely obsessed fan, a world without The Doctor and Torchwood by the end of 2009 is a bit too much to bear...

I am so happy that I am not alone in loving Torchwood. Unfortunately, I came in on Season 2, but will soon be buying both seasons for my Capt. Jack fix. And I agree with you all, BBC has some of the best shows, that keep you interested. We MUST have a full season! Also, I think Freema might be coming on at least for a few eps, and though I will miss Toshiko and Owen, she would be a good addition. . .
