Tom Selleck Joins Vegas... as James Caan Returns?

As buzzed about a month ago, NBC has signed Emmy winner Tom Selleck (Magnum, P.I.) to join the cast of NBC's Las Vegas this fall, playing "a charismatic, self-made billionaire who is surrounded by an air of mystery when he becomes the new owner of the Montecito Resort & Casino."

In making the announcement, NBC also revealed that — as some form of baton-passing, I presume — James Caan will reprise his role of Ed Deline in the Season 5 premiere. It was announced earlier this year that Caan would be leaving Las Vegas after its fourth-season finale, but just when he thought he was out, they pulled him back in. (Little Pacino/Godfather/Sonny Corleone reference for ya there.)

Makes sense for James to come back for at least the first episode next season considering the way it left off this season. Holy cliffhanger!

If Mary won't be back to get back with Danny, who cares?

Who cares about Mary and Danny, that storyline always seemed a little like incest. Those characters always gave off a hint of and older brother younger sister vibe. However, I do think Nikki Cox got a raw deal when she was let go.

Sounds like the perfect way to follow up the cliff-hanger!

Who needs Mary - We still have plenty of eye-candy left!

It would also be nice to have Nikki/Mary back to finish off the who fired the gun storyline. But I could understand why she wouldn't come back after being let go.

I am soooo glad Mary is gone. They took her from an 'innocent' girl having to work at a casino to care for her family --- to a slut. They had her dress so bad with slits down to her navel. The best line of all last season was when a guy thought she was a hooker he had called for. I'll miss James Caaan but oh boy, to just now read that Tom Selleck has been hired. YES!!!! Now if Nessa would just come back.

Once again, James Caan shows himself to be a cool guy! As a Las Vegas fan, I appreciate that!

The longest I've ever followed Tom Selleck in a role was when he was on Friends, so it'll be fun to get to know him a little bit more.

Nessa is on an island with the "survivors" of Flight 815.
Jim Caan is a moron.
He had a nice, stable job that paid him well and yet he believed he was missing out on movie roles. I'm sorry, but I just don't see people pounding on his door for him to be in their movie.
Hopefully, Tom will bring something fresh and new to this series which, while entertaining, was becoming a little too predictable and goofy.
It was wrong for them to fire Nikki Cox like they did, but I think her character went as far as it could...and unfortunately, it was in the wrong direction. ~ŠL

I agree with most bloggers here. I think the producers have no idea what to do with Mary's role, Mary has been everywhere the last two seasons! Actually, I would rather see Delinda and Danny together than Mary with Danny. D & D have more fun and are more believable as couple.

I like the dramas arise from the conflicts between Ed, Danny, and Delinda but I think it is getting old too. I like Tom Selleck in Magnum PI and Friends!! I think it would be a nice change for the show.

Have to disagree with you about this one! James Caan still rules - I would pay good money to see anything that he has, is or is going to be in!

Anybody that lived at the Playboy Mansion for almost two years can't be all bad!

I was pretty upset with James Caan leaving and didn't like the way they treated Mary.....but if I'm going to get Tom Selleck as a trade off I'm IN! Loved him from way back when...can't wait to see what he brings to the show!

Is Nikki Cox coming back for the premiere too, or are they going to somehow forget about her character?

Cool. I love Tom. I have been a fan since he first appeared on "The Rockford Files" as Lance White. Will he have his famous mustache for this role or not like he did for a while when he was on "Friends". I wonder if people are saying to him, again, "Are you nuts joining an estabished show like 'Las Vegas'? I remember reading he was asked that question when he guest on "Friends". I don't care; I will be there.

Might have to watch Vegas now. Even Josh Duhamel couldn't accomplish that before....
