Time's Up for Journeyman; Should NBC Reconsider?
Kevin McKidd in Journeyman by Justin Lubin/NBC Photo
Kevin McKidd's time travels appear to be over. NBC had until Tuesday to award a full-season pickup to Journeyman — as it has done with freshman series Chuck and Life — but... didn't, says the Reporter, and thus has essentially dismissed the drama.
Small consolation to Journeymanfans: The show was able to complete its original 13-episode order before the WGA struck, and the remaining two will air as scheduled, an NBCer assures the trade.
What's your take? Was Journeyman just finding its footing, or did its "time" simply come?
POLL: Should NBC give Journeyman another chance? Vote here.

This sucks. The show has gotten so good lately. I'll miss it, only show on NBC I watch. But let's be honest, NBC airs nothing but crap now a days.

I took it off my Tivo subscription list after I had to start forcing myself to watch it, but I know many people who will be very disappointed. Hopefully the final two episodes will wrap things up and provide some answers for the fans.

I'm so bummed about this. I really like this show and it just got better every week. To bad because I think that Kevin McKidd is a fantastic actor and I will miss his presence on my screen.

I know I'm merely a naive viewer, but I don't understand how the mind of a network executive works. Why stop promoting a respectable drama that has a seemingly growing audience in a season ruined by a writers' strike? No wonder the ratings [purportedly] started to drop! When the "holiday season" of viewing starts around Thanksgiving, a responsible network needs to remind its audience when new episodes of a show are airing. I think that blip a couple of weeks ago, when NBC aired Life on Monday night in place of Journeyman without explanation, threw some viewers off. I believe some thought it had been canceled, and stopped looking for it at that point. I haven't really seen any on-air promotion for new episodes since then (always the death knell for a show),and look - here we are! It becomes a depressing, self-fulfilling prophecy.
What bothers me the most is that the storyline is really starting to take off! What's the downside to keeping this series on? If/when the strike ends, isn't it more cost-effective to return this one to the airwaves, and let it continue to build its audience (with proper promotion), as Jericho did, rather than start all over with an unknown show still in development?
I wish the cast and crew the best of luck. I think they have done a wonderful job, and they should be proud of their work!

I can't say I am too sad. It had such good promise but I think I didn't like the fact that he had a family and ties here. She was such a nag on the first few shows... granted she had a right... I think I was hoping for more of a Quantum feel.

funny, I felt the opposite. That his family and ties at home is what made the show, and the characters, interesting. There was still so much potential for where it could have gone. From what I hear, we will have a DVD set, so there's that.

I love the show, I never missed an episode. But it never caught the attention of the Nielson families and pulled ratings. That is the way TV works for better or worse pull the numbers or go away. I'll miss the show and I would like to know who is pulling the strings send Dan on these missions, but I guess we will never know

Based on last years "cancellations run amok", this year I only chose a few new shows. I opted out of Journeyman, Big Shots, and Cane, and stayed with Life and Chuck. For once I made a good choice. I know how you feel to have a show you like yanked unceremoniously. Damn the strike, too!

ANOTHER example of a good show that the network did not give enough time for people to watch! I am sick of getting vested in a show and then having it yanked off the air! This was a good show, good plots and great actors. You would think with the writers strike you would try to keep quality tv on the air instead of "Battle of the Choirs!"

It is too bad while the show could be confusing, I did enjoy it. I am sorry to hear that it will not live past unlucky 13. Also has Reaper got a order for it's back nine?

Hey Matt, I think Journeyman was definitely getting better. How did it do on Monday night? Was its numbers better or worse than Life's from the previous Monday? What about FNL on Friday? So does this also mean Bionic Woman is gone too? I guess I am more curious than normal because I haven't seen the ratings, and with the strike and the holidays I don't have much new TV to distract me. THANKS!!

I stopped watching when I had to force myself to watch it as well- but I am sorry to the fans of the show. There's nothing worse than loving a show only to have it canceled. But let's be honest, NBC airs nothing but crap now a days. Sorry, but I couldn't disagree with you more. Though they might not be everyone's cup of tea, Friday Night Lights, Heroes, and Chuck are all great shows.
