Brokaw Tributes Russert on Sunday's Meet the Press
Tom Brokaw courtesy NBC
As the broadcast news community and its audience still reels from the news of Tim Russert's passing, NBC has decided to broadcast this Sunday a special, Tom Brokaw-hosted edition of Meet the Press, celebrating the political analyst's extraordinary life and career.
"Tim was a man of many passions — his family most of all, his faith, his country, political journalism, baseball and the Buffalo Bills," Brokaw shares in a statement. "As a working class Irish-American with a Jesuit education his range was wide and deep — from the sensibilities of blue-collar voters to the politics of the Vatican, from the power plays on Capitol Hill to the power plays on network television. Almost all of our conversations — and they went on every day — ended with some version of, 'Can you believe how lucky we are to be doing this?'"
Brokaw is the one who broke into Friday-afternoon programming to report the sudden passing of the NBC family's "beloved colleague."
In most markets, Meet the Press is seen on NBC stations Sunday from 9 to 10 am/ET. In Washington, D.C. and New York City, it is broadcast at 10:30 am. Check the Meet the Press website for broadcast times in your area. — Matt Mitovich

Tim Russert was the best. Whatever your political persuasion you could appreciate his ability to grill politicians with relevant and probing questions. I can't think of anyone that can replace him. He will be missed.

The person I think to best replace him would be Tom Brokaw, but the question is would TB come out of semi-retirement to do it?? He'd be my first choice, probably second would be David Gregory or Andrea Mitchell, but I would still have a difficult time seeing anyone other than Tim Russert doing "Meet The Press".

Shannon, I logged on to suggest that same thing. I wonder if it's too much to hope that Tom would take the gig on a temporary basis and then, like Diane and Charlie on GMA, just stay on and do the job. I can't think of anyone I would rather see in that seat. I bet Tim would agree.

Not since Walter Cronkite was there ever a newsman who wasn't afraid to find out the truth and report it. Now that Russert is gone, I pray to God that NBC finds another journalist who has the integrity and courage to stand up to TPTB. I will miss the man. He did an excellent job - always. I bet the crooks are rejoicing in secret...

Brokaw and Co. did a great Russert Tribute on today's Meet the Press. It seems the majority would like to see Brokaw take over; however, I don't see Tom doing that. Even though he's hardly been resting and relaxing during his retirement, he has been able to pick and choose his projects, something not in his grasp if he takes on the gruelling schedule of a weekly show. Definitely a Watch and See!

I weeped my way through today's special edition of Meet the Press. I do not know what we will do without Tim's tenacity for getting to the truth. He had that undefinable quality for making us feel like a friend. I feel we lost a friend on Friday. He was like none other and we are diminished by his absence.
Go Bills.

What a magnificent tribute today's "Meet the Press" was. Tim's NBC colleagues and friends did him proud. I hope NBC asks Tom Brokaw to anchor the show through the election, and then decide on a permanent replacement after the inaguration. Pehaps Brokaw would do it in tribute to Tim Russert for these seven months.

NBC did a nice work in paying tribute to Tim Russert. I was moved. He was an excellent journalist. This year election will never be the same!
My prayer to his family and friends.

I have read a few stories on all the possible replacements for Tim on Meet The Press, and I think anyone who has been named would be a fitting replacement.
I would still like to see Tom Brokaw take it through the election.
