The April 21 episode of How I Met Your Mother is turning into a wonderful '80s flashback. Already marking the return of Robin Sparkles, the outing will feature visits from former teen popstress Tiffany and Growing Pains' Alan Thicke, playing Ms. Sparkles' gal pal and father, respectively, in a newly unearthed video for "Sandcastles in the Sand," a ballad Robin wrote upon being dumped by her backup-dancer beau (Dawson's Creek's James Van Der Beek).

HIMYM co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas wrote and composed "Sandcastles in the Sand" as the B-side of "Let's Go to the Mall," using iconic '80s breakup ballads such as "Foolish Beat" and "Toy Soldiers" as inspiration.

With Michael Gross (Family Ties) having guested as Ted's pop and Bob Saget (Full House) playing narrator, Thicke represents the third classic '80s dad to get involved with the CBS sitcom.

What's your take? Is this shaping up to be one of Mother's best eps? — MWM

I don't usually watch this show, but I may have to tune in for this. The last Robin Sparkles video was pretty hilarious. I don't think fans have to worry anymore about its renewal.

I love it, that's awesome. This is going to be a hilarious episode. Funny that Robin's dad is also played by a Canadian. I can't wait!

I think that's fantastic!!!!:^OHowever, note to TPTB-
PLEASE don't ruin it by milking Robin Sparkles dry like a tired old recurring SNL skit.:_|

Mr. F, I am with you 100%!

I am nervous about this... the glory of Robin Sparkles could be tarnished.

This episode sounds legendary. I can't wait! I liked seeing Alan Thicke on CBC's jPod so it'll be cool to see him on HIMYM.

It'll be a "Legendary" episode alright, but it won't be because of the music video. Let's just say a "no" turns into a "yes."

Now if they could get Bill Cosby to play Barney's stepdad, that would be LEGENDARY!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this episode doesn't disappoint like Slapsgiving, which I had very high hopes for.

FANTASTIC! Dawson as the back up dancer who broke her heart... brilliant! I can just see the Ted meets Dawson moment. I wonder if Tiffany and Robin Sparkles competed over the best malls to perform at...

I beg to differ. Slapsgiving was hilarious. One of the pre-strike best.

This episode is going to be awesome. I can't wait for the return of Robin Sparkles.

The best part of Slapbet for me was the rest of the gang's reaction to Robin and Let's Go To the Mall. This should be just as good. They'll get a kick out of a sappy ballad.
