Castoffs Chelsie and Mark Dish on Dance

Chelsie Hightower and Mark Kanemura by Joe Viles/Fox
Thursday night's So You Think You Can Dance results show brought highs, lows and even some crazy costumery (I'm talking to you, Lady GaGa) — plus the end of the road for Chelsie Hightower and Mark Kanemura. Despite sizzling dance moves for almost the entire competition, the pair was voted off the show. Friday, the two spoke to press about how they're faring, what advice they'd give to future dancers, and what's next (after the tour, that is). Here's what they had to say on:

How They're Faring After Being Cast Off:
Mark: I know it sounds like, 'Oh, he's covering up his emotions or whatever,' but I'm feeling really, really, really happy actually. I feel everything lined up for me to leave on an awesome, awesome note. In my own aspect, I feel like I've won.
Chelsie: I'm feeling great right now. I'm very grateful and so blessed to be a part of this show and make it this far. The biggest thing is, I feel like I put everything into each of my performances, and at that point it's out of your control what happens. I can't control the public, so I'm happy with myself and that's the most I could ask for.

On What They've Learned from SYTYCD:
Mark: I've learned to be more confident in who I am and the voice that I have. Because I think that's the thing that got me on the show, my uniqueness, so it helped to be more secure in it.
Chelsie: We had a long discussion with [choreographer] Tyce Diorio and he talked to us about camera work, and that it's so important to do your best because it lasts forever. No matter what time of day it is, no matter how beaten down you are, you have to do your best.

Advice They'd Give Future Dancers:
Mark: You have to be sure of who you are and what you want to accomplish. Because it's not just a dance show, but gives you an opportunity to show the person you are. As long as you go there knowing who you are what you want to do and accomplish and learn, it should help.
Chelsie: I would say, prepare your mind mentally and be positive, and take as many classes in the other styles as you can.

What's Next on Their Dance Cards:
Mark: I love dark stuff. I want to see where everything takes me on a non-dance level, too. It would be great to get into movies and acting. I love Tim Burton's work and Johnny Depp. I love how dark they can and how artistic they are. I'm open to so many different things right now.
Chelsie: I really just want to perform, so whatever that takes me to, whatever show. I just want to be on stage and doing what I love to be doing. — Anna Dimond

So sad to see these two go, I wanted them in the finale. I'm a huge fan of Tim Burton and would love to see Mark in some of his work, they would make a great fit. I'll be keeping an eye out for both of them!

I love Mark's attitude! I was rooting for both Mark and Chelsie! I was disappointed to see both of them eliminated. They are both my favorites!

What's the point of mentioning the "crazy" get-up and making her name a link, when the page is practically empty and there's NO PHOTO there?

I second that, Anonymouse! A small thing, but quite annoying.

Mark: You truly showed all of us the aloha spirit. I will definitely miss you this week but I am so happy that you were able to leave on such a high note. Imua!

Anonymouse et al: Try this for now, with more on GaGa's page to come. At the very least, you need to see her shoulder pads. --A.D.

That outfit scared me. I had to fast forward that whole thing, because I liked the song the first time I heard it, and then I got sick of it, and then this outfit scared me. That was it.

I was rooting for them both as well, especially Chelsea who was certainly the best dancer left after Will's exit. Certainly, Mark deserved a notch above Twitch, who is certainly a one-trick solo act and probably cost Chelsea some points when she had to slow down for him. I think the one thing that did Chelsea in most were her choreographers Tab and Napolean. What were they thinking (besides of themsleves) for making Chelsea dress up in clownish black and white baggy outfit and then having her dance a very short mime, which basically was more theator than dance. Meanwhile, the other women got to show their sexuality in hot dresses and sensous dances. I guess I am still angry about that injustice.
