CBS' Swingers Series Looks for Summer Lovin'

CBS announced on Wednesday that Swingtown, which, until the strike hit, was supposed to launch midseason, now will get a summer debut. The nontraditional launch time for a scripted series, executive producer Carol Barbee tells the Reporter, actually "is perfect for Swingtown since the pilot takes place on the Bicentennial Fourth of July." Ahh, memories of me donning knickers for a Rogers Elementary School play....

Swingtown, for those who can't remember back to last May's upfronts (when it was first brandished), follows couples experimenting with sexual and social mores in 1970s Chicago. It's like The Ice Storm minus the nympho Christina Ricci. It does star, however, Grant Show, Josh Hopkins (Brothers & Sisters), Miriam Shor (The West Wing), Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean), Molly Parker (Deadwood) and Lana Parrilla (Boomtown).

I could have SWORN the decription of "Swingtown" back in May was that it was a COP show set in the 70's... Am I crazy? Did it change, or is it that an ASPECT of the show deals with cops? Hmmm...

Gotta love CBS. They used to cater to an older and more rural demographic. Now they're going after baby boomers (wait, they're nearing retirement, so I guess that's still older, just not the usual geriatric set) nostalgic for their heyday and frustrated single women. Hmm, with this show, maybe the period will bring in the 25-54, and the sex will bring in the 18-49. If they show some disco and bring in a "Saturday Night Fever" character, they'll have the trifecta of roping in the "Dancing with the Stars" crowd.

Oh, shut up, Matt. I was at college having "Free Love!" shouted at me by every loser I wouldn't sleep with. Those are not fond memories!

And on another note, this should give the 18-49 set a totally different view of their parents than they've ever had before. Oy!
