Friday the 13th? It's a Date for Supernatural's Jared

Jared Padalecki by Michael Muller/The CW
I'm going to post this one quickly, and then step out of the way of the screaming Winchester-loving meemies (although surely they already know about it by now). Supernatural superhunk Jared Padalecki is in final talks to star in the Michael Bay-produced remake of Friday the 13th, says the Reporter.

Slated for a Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, release, this reboot of the horror franchise will pick up straight away with a hockey-masked Jason, skipping over the nasty mother issues as well as the burlap-hooded version. As the male lead, Padalecki would play an investigator (foolishly) looking into some Camp Crystal Lake mayhem.

What do you think? Should Jason just be left alone? The big guy really doesn't like to be bothered.... — MWM

Are there really people clamoring for a reboot of the Friday the 13th franchise? Really???

If they do it right, it could be really good. Rob Zombies Halloween was good, and people were worried about that.

I don't know.. I mean, okay. It's great Jared got the lead and all. But it's pretty much just him doing his 'day job' on the big screen.

I would think he'd want something different. Plus, lord, I mean how often can the remake these old horror movies. Again and again. God. It's old.

Normally I'd say it's a crap career move but since this "reimagining" is being directed by Marcus Nispel who directed the dark, violent and mostly terrifying remake of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (one w/ Jessica Biel) there's potential for it to become the CASINO ROYALE of the FRIDAY THE 13th series (yeah, that was stretching it but I do think it will become the definitive FRIDAY the 13th movie.)
That not enough for ya? Two of Jared's previous movies also starred the Olsen twins and Paris Hilton. Definately a move in the right direction....UNLESS the studio decides that it needs to be PG-13, in which case it will crash and burn.

No, it wasn't.:_|Be worried. Be very worried.:OAlso, it's can't be a RE-make without the mother.
A RE-imaging? I say more like a RE-gurgitation!!!:_|

Oh Jared...I really hope it turns out better than the HoW remake.

The TCM remake was okay, so maybe there is hope for this as well.

I'd really rather see him do something totally different though...how about a comedy? After BDaBR, we know JP can handle the slapstick just fine!

I think I would much rather have seen the episode of Supernatural where Jason was supposed to show up in Bobby's dream and Dean & Sam had to fight him. Hopefully, this movie makes me have more faith in remakes, because after Rob Zombies' raping of Halloween, I don't know how much more I can take. I am a huge Friday the 13th fan, so I am expecting a lot.

No screaming. Not a meemie. I always wondered how you spelled that. Apparently I have my answer.

I am always supportive of any SN-alum's career moves, but I'd like to see JP try a small role in a big-budget drama, or something that stretches him a little more. I'm not a horror fan myself, but I wish him well, and I hope it turns out to be a big hit.

Hey, Raputathebuta! Long time no talk!

I'm like everyone else- I wish Jared the best and horror does seem to be his gig, but I would really, really like to see him stretch his wings a little. I think he would do great in a comedy or an indie character-driven drama.

If they're going to remake or re-imagine "Friday the 13th", it seems to me they have to start with an origin story...or is that too conventional? Of course I'm still scratching my head over how Jason went from being your run-of-the-mill psycho serial killer to a supernatural, unstoppable, zombie killer.

I'd rather see a Supernatural Movie than another tired old Jason movie. Where's Jason living - in a retirement home?

Yes, he should be left alone---with me. Fifteen or 20 minutes with me, I will definitely show him something Supernatural on any Friday the 13th.

Hey AfleetAlex! *waves back*

I won't be holding my breath over this remake, but I hope that it's better than The Fog or When a Stranger Calls. Those remakes sucked bad.

How can you NOT have Pamela Voorhees in it!

Where's Jason living - in a retirement home? Hee hee! I can just see him playing shuffleboard, getting ticked off when he loses & impaling his opponent with the cue.
