USA Network at Sunday's TCA sessions revealed an Oct. 10 premiere date for Debra Messing's The Starter Wife, a full-on series based on the mini (based on the book). The cabler also announced that In Plain Sight has been picked up for a second season.

USA has also greenlit a trio of pilots: Covert Affairs, about a CIA linguist partnered with an ex-boyfriend; Operating Instructions, concerning a female inner-city surgeon home from Iraq; and Stiffs, in which a morgue employee and his medical examiner brother solve homicides. — Matt Mitovich

Dianora: "Glad to see the IPS news. I've really been enjoying it!"

So am I! Could care less about TSW. Was the most stupidest "mini-series" I ever saw. Since she's no longer TSW, and apparently was happy when last we saw her...who cares? Of course, that's just my opinion on the matter. :-p

If Stiffs becomes a big hit they won't even have to change the name for the porn version.

I'm looking foward to The Starter Wife and I'm happy to hear that In Plain Sight got picked up.Like everything else on the USA network,I think they are great shows.

In Plain Sight is awful. All of the characters are unlikable, and the plots are silly and uneven.

I think this show benefitted from the writers strike. After all, crappy scripted is better than no scripted!

Good luck in season 2. Perhaps they can pop Mary McCormack's lips.

(BTW, I tried to like this show, but after the 4th episode I gave up!)

In Plain Sight is good summer fun-not to be taken too seriously and is good company for Monk and Psych. It is also very good for a light time after a Sunday with new Law and Order CI and the very serious SUV.

I am a bit disapointed that Started Wife is comming back because it was a facinating but at the same time blah series last year-almost like a train wreck!! Hopefully this year they will make better use of the actors and have more interesting stuff. We shall see. I will watch because I can not believe Debra would stay with a series that was borderline dull by any means.

I for one am thrilled to have TSW back. Maybe they will let us have one strong female show since they cancelled, MIT, Something ABout Brian, and October Road.

I like the main witness protection stories on IPS, but I'm not a fan of the secondary/family stories. (The sister and the mother particularly irritate me.) I think it has promise, though, so I'm happy it will get time to work its issues through.

Hopefully they'll renew Burn Notice soon too, as that is my favorite USA Network show at the moment.

But what do you really think,

Is SUV based on that Robin Williams movie, RV, lauramushcat?
Seriously, I enjoy IPS and you're right, it does fit well with the other USA Network programming. With the way things are going it may become the true fourth network.

I enjoyed The Starter Wife- as mindless summer fluff. But a series? Especially starting it over a year after the "miniseries" ended? Not so smart. I do like Debra Messing though and wish she could find something better than this or The Wedding Date.

It's funny, people complain about how stupid a show could be but apparently they have and opinion about it. So they must have watched the show and watched it more than once to form an opinion about it. These show are great and funny. Why don't you guys just chill and enjoy the shows.

How big a turd does the starter wife have to be to have commercials for it EVERY 4 minutes to infinity. I wouldn't watch it just so the freakin commercials will go away.
