Stargate Movies Deemed Ready for Takeoff
Stargate SG-1 by Eike Schroter/Sci Fi Channel Photo
Farscape, I got. Farscape, I liked. Farscape, I miss. But Stargate SG-1? Um, no. Nonetheless, MGM Television has given the green light to a pair of TV-movies based on its hit sci-fi series. The first, Stargate: The Ark of Truth, will wrap up the main story line from the show's last two seasons. The second, Stargate: Continuum, will kick off a new adventure. On board are leads Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge and Michael Shanks, and Farscape alumni Ben Browder and Claudia Black. I'll say it again: Farscape, I miss.

I know how you feel. I wish we could continue with the Farscape franchise, cause honestly, it was 1 of the most amazing TV shows I've ever had the pleasure of watching. It makes me sad that there isn't more and that the 5th Season had to be mushed into a 4 hour TV movie. R.I.P. Farscape!
I only started watching Stargate so I could get a fix of Ben and Claudia each week, and just seeing them near each other on screen.....you can still feel the chemistry!

Matt Matt Matt!! I seriously wish critics/journalists/etc would stop bashing/putting down Stargate (be it SG-1 or Atlantis) like it was the ugly duckling of SciFi. Yes Farscape is gone, lamented (even by myself), and more TV movies (at least) should be made. And yes...even Battlestar Galactica is a great series. However that does not mean that Stargate is or ever has been lacking in quality. Yes, I'll admit that there have been a few episodes that didn't live up to par. However even you have to admit that not every episode of Farscape was 100% and neither has BSG been. I just wish Stargate would be given it's due as THE longest running American SciFi series!!! You don't stay around as long as it has (over a decade) or spawn 2 spinoffs (yes, a third is in the works) in today's TV world if you suck! And to answer your question as to why MGM would allow TV movies to be made of the series after it's end this spring...well look at the sales for the DVDs! They are second only to the James Bond series in sales for MGM! So the question should be...why only 2?!

I am a proud owner of all of SG-1's seasons, and anxiously awaiting the arrival of Season 10 to DVD. I'll be the first to admit that not every single episode is earth-shattering good. However, the majority of SG-1's episodes are well-written and I am tired of the slews of people and their negative comments. If you've haven't watched through the the years, then there is nothing you can say. The show possesses great character drama and an excellent sense of comedic timing. The balance between action and comedy keep true Sci-Fi followers tuned in.

I'm right there with ya, buddy. I tried to watch Stargate (first by itself when it aired on Showtime??? and then after Ben and Claudia arrived) and I just can't get into it. Loved the movie...like Stargate Atlantis, but am just bored to tears with SG-1. Go figure. I miss Farscape too, but I guess unique is not always valuable in our world.

I absolutely hated Farscape. I absolutely love Stargate SG1. I don't know what I will do without them. Not very often can a cast of people work together so well that they can finish each other's sentence. I am beside myself. (not really). But I do love that show and will definetly miss it. And if there are a couple of movies coming out, I will be first in line, unless they are on tv, then I will be sitting in front of the tv. I only have one person that I can share my loss with and he is my old boss that fired me. haha. We were both fanatics and faithfully watched all episodes on Monday nights. I will probably end up buying all 10 seasons someday.
Anyone out there feeling my pain?

Matt - Everytime I watch SG1 I miss Farscape even more. I enjoyed the addition of Ben and Claudia, but it still seems like a high school production as opposed to Broadway.
SciFi, it's not too late to right a horrible wrong - give us our Farscape movies!

I HAVE BEEN A LONG TIM FAN OF SCIFI SHOWS. I STARTED WITH STAR TREK AT THE AGE OF 4 AND ALWAYS HAD THE DREAM TO GO TO SPACE. AS I CAN NOT DO IT IN REAL LIFE I DO IT THROGH TV. SPACE 1999, LOST IN SPACE, ALL OF THE ST SHOWS, DR WHO, BLAKE 7, RED DWARF, BABYLON 5 AND SO ON TO SG1, SG ALANTIS AND FARSCAPE. I LOVE THEM ALL. I BELIEVE SG1 IS GOOD STILL W/ BEN AND CLAUDIA BUT THEY WERE BETTER IN FARSCAPE AND RDA WAS THE BETTER LEADER FOR THE SG1 HE MADE THE SHOW HAVE SOME REALISM TO IT AS NOT EVERYONE IS SMART AND CAN DO ANY & EVERYTHING. I WILL MISS SG1 AS I MISS THE OTHER SHOWS THAT HAVE LONG GONE. THE CAST HAS BEEN GREAT AND I WISH THE BEST AND HOPE TO SEE MORE SHOWS FROM THEM. AS FAR AS THE BSG I DO PREFER THE ORIGINAL SERIES OVER THE NEW ONE

Stargate SG1 is an amazing show and I can't wait for the movies. I did watch the odd episode of Farscape, but just couldn't get past the 'cheap' feel of the sets etc. Like watching very old Doctor Who episodes!
Will there only be two movies? Or is that two per year? Let's hope!

After making the mistake of cancelling farscape and suffering all the fallout, you would think mgm would have learnt their lesson.
SG1 has to have been their best ever show, I have all the dvds and will be getting season 10 as soon as it is available. I will be first in the queue for the movies even pre ordering to make sure of getting them. It has been rumoured that the decision to make more movies will be based on the sales of the first two movies, so go out and buy them please we need more SG1.

Matt -
First and foremost, you are months late on the SG-1 movie news. That has been posted on www.gateworld.net for months - since the cancellation of the series was announced.
Second, why are you bashing Stargate? As a tv critic I expect to hear from you why a show is worth watching or not worth watching, not your personal whining with nothing to back it up to help TV viewers.
Third, Farscape and Stargate are two different universes. I love both shows, have every DVD from both shows and watch them both often.
Farscape took more chances - a la the new Battlestar Galactica with drama, evil and sex.
Stargate is your more family oriented, everyone can watch us kind of show.
I love both and will certainly miss SG-1 being on air each week.
But I have the DVDs to watch whenever I want and that will do just fine.
