Star Trek Ready for Blastoff with Castin' of Kirk and Bones Picking

As previewed last week, Chris Pine (Just My Luck, Smokin' Aces) has signed on to play James Tiberius Kirk in J.J. Abrams' increasingly anticipated Star Trek feature film. The future Enterprise crew is now complete, with the further addition of country singer The Lord of the Rings' Karl Urban as Leonard "Bones/I'm a Doctor, Not a Bricklayer" McCoy.

With shooting to begin next month, now we just need a script that sings and uniforms that aren't, like, absolutely goofy.

Whoever is casting this movie is dead on. Chris Pine as Kirk, and Zach Quinto as Spock? This is a must watch first day movie.

They couldn't have picked a hunkier Kirk.

Ok, not to niggle, but Karl Urban as Bones? That seems strange to me. But I shouldn't quibble, since he is a New Zealander and I should support my own.

As for the other guy, he's certainly got a pair of blue eyes on him.

So my question is: Is this movie going to attempt to be serious, or is it just going to be a flat out spoof? I'm not thrilled by some of their casting decisions, and some of their choices are making me wary that we are in for a spoof.

Woah! This guy is hot. Of course, they will probably alter Zach Quinto's eye-brows but Chris Pine's could definitely compete! Also, those eyes...again Zach Quinto has the deep brown to balance. Some serious eye candy here! Looking forward to it.

:_| I like the "Star Trek" shows with Captain Janeway, Picard and of course Scott Bakula. If you have Captain Kirk and Bones you've got to have Uhura, Sulu and Scotty... and don't forget the computer who communicates with a womans voice. ;)

Chris Pine's dad was the boss on CHiPs. Robert Pine, I think his name is...

Chris Pine...mm
The original lead of Star Trek was Jeffrey Hunter as Chris(topher) Pike.
One letter difference. Kismet.

This is not a spoof. And the casting is near perfect so far.

But if the uniforms aren't goofy, it won't be Star Trek! (And Stephen Colbert would have been a better Spock - he wouldn't even need to have his ears done! :^O )

The casting of this movie and the time on stage spent with Zach Quinto and Leonard Nimoy back during Comic Con when the excitement started just makes me want to wax rhetorical.

Let the You Tube Video go forth. from the net and computers at home from Star Trek friends and Star Trek foes alike, Spock's ears have been passed to a new generation of Star Trekkers---born after 1968, forged by the original series, tempered by mediochre and sometimes lousy spin-offs---proud of the greatest Science-Fiction franchise ever created, and unwilling to witness or permit any further slow degredation of the quality entertainment to which Star Trek has always been committed, and to which geeks continue to be committed thoughout the Science Fiction universe.

Semper Sci-Fi!
This is more exciting than the advent of ST/TNG!

Keep on Treken!!!

I'm happy with most of the cast, but Paul McGillion should have been Scotty, not Simon Pegg. Simon got the job because he's worked with Abrams before, but McGillion would have been closer to Doohan's character.

I can't wait to see this movie. I hope the script is good enough to warrant me going to see this movie.
