Saturday Night Live has named Upright Citizens Brigade performer Bobby Moynihan as its newest featured player, NBC tells TVGuide.com.
Moynihan has performed in several groups at New York City's UCB Theater, which was established by SNL's Amy Poehler, among others. The theater, which started in Chicago and also has an arm in Los Angeles, also produced former Not Ready For Prime Time Player Horatio Sanz and current cast member Casey Wilson.
Moynihan has also coached independent improv teams around the city, and (full disclosure), I happen to be in one of them. Here are five more things you may not now about the 31-year-old Lost fan from Eastchester, N.Y.:
1. He appears in the upcoming movie This Side of the Truth with Ricky Gervais, one of his comic heroes, and Jennifer Garner.
2. One of his characters at UCB includes a flamboyant waiter who keeps interrupting diners to ask if they smell pepper.
3. He likes the Notorious B.I.G. and Jennifer Love Hewitt a lot.
4. His joining the cast of SNL keeps the number of Upright Citizens alumni in perfect balance: Poehler is leaving the show this season.
5. He appears in The Line, a series of webisodes directed by SNL's Seth Meyers. You can learn more about it here.
Good luck, Bobby. Soon all America will smell the pepper. — Tim Molloy.
