Blerg! Tina Fey to Host First New SNL

Live from New York, it will be Tina Fey on a new episode of Saturday Night Live! Producers have announced that the late-nighter will return Feb. 23 with the former head writer/cast member at the helm, making it one of the first programs to rebound from the three-month-long WGA strike. (No official word yet on when Fey's new baby, 30 Rock, will return, although Ausiello sez we should see five to 10 new eps sometime this spring.)

"It's been a long dry spell without Saturday Night Live on the air," Rick Ludwin, head of late-night entertainment at NBC, tells the AP. "They've been sitting on the sidelines watching all this happening in politics and the primaries. SNL thrives during an election year and they can't wait to get back on." Indeed! In fact, the last new SNL featured a skit in which Hillary Clinton hosted a Halloween party where the other candidates joked about the inevitability of her presidency. Barack Obama, wearing a "Barack Obama" mask, guest-starred. What a difference three months makes, huh?

I think that Tina Fey is a great choice as host!!
I wouldn't be surprised to see a cameo by Alec Baldwin, whom I consider the best SNL guest host of all time.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Ellen Page.
It's just too bad that her "real" breakout movie, IMO, Hard Candy,
is probably to obscure for SNL.
Otherwise, they could really have a field day!!:)

Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan camoed when Alec Baldwin hosted last season. So it wouldn't be too surprising if Alec camoed for Tina.

However, not even Tina Fey can save the trainwreck that is the current SNL. It's almost painful to watch.

Nothing almost about it. I'll tune in for Tina Fey but I usually tape SNL and it ends up taking me about 12 minutes to watch it as I wear out my FF button.

I can't stand Tina Fey. SNL has gotten better since she stopped writing for it and left the show.

Looking forward to seeing Ellen Page host though. She was greate in Juno.

I agree overall that the show has been awful, but I think that it is the kind of show that should be judged by an episode-to-episode basis.
The right host can make the difference.
I think the episode with Brian Williams resuscitated it a bit.

It really hasn't felt like she's been gone that long for it to be special. I hope it helps 30 Rock but it probably won't. They really should have gone with a big star for the return.

I'm really excited that Tina Fey will be hosting given that she was so vocal in support of the writers. I will actually have more news on that show as it becomes available at my Bill Hader (who's also in SNL) website. Check it out:

There's always some moron who says that. The show's format is an institution that will likely outlive us all. There have been successes in the past few years especially with the digital shorts that have put the show at the forefront of comedy. It's not the Belushi, Murphy or Myers era but it's still going strong.

Agreed!
It's interesting how people who don't watch a particular show (not just this one) actually believe they can have the "end all' opinion of its' worth.
I'll gladly listen to anyone's' thoughts on shows they actually watch!!!!
