Simon: Ryan as "Not Funny" Emmys Host Is a Problem

Simon says... he's concerned by reports that Ryan Seacrest, in his capacity as host of Sunday night's Emmys ceremony, might himself sing. "The worst thing that can happen, which I've said to him, is publicly humiliating yourself in front of all of America," Cowell tells TV's Extra. (See: Malakar, Sanjaya.) And warbling, Cowell laughs, is not his Idol chum's only handicap going into the awards show: "The fact that most years it's hosted by comedians, and Ryan's not funny, is a small issue."

Seacrest is going to be a disaster. The only good thing that can come out of this is that he'll crash and burn so badly that it will depress the frequency with which he pops up elsewhere.

I agree scooterndc. I hope now everyone will realize that he doesn't need to do everything. American Idol and AT40 are as much as we need.

I do not care for him; he is not funny and just knowing he is hosting the Emmy's makes me not want to watch! Sad too; I haven't missed an awards show in 20 years!

I think Hugh Laurie would have made a MUCH better host then Seacrest!

I think we've seen enough of Ryan Seacrest from American Idol. We need a fresh face who's actually funny. I also think Hugh Laurie would be a great host.

It certainly seems like no one wants Seacrest to be the host, so why the hell don't they(whoever decides the host) pick a few reasonable choices and let people vote online or something like that.

It's a 'dirty job' but somebody's gotta do it. Hey, how 'bout Mike Rowe? OTOH, are the Emmys really that desperate that they invite such a lightweight as Seacrest to host their annual awards ceremony? Who'll it be next year? The latest catch-n-release from "Survivor"?

I think all this talk from Simon about Ryan hosting the Emmys is just a publicity stunt. Ryan is a handsome and competent TV personality and will do a good job as Emmys host. Those that do not like him just don't look at the show and get a life. He must be good or the job wouldn't have been offered to him. You go Ryan and let the critics suck it up.
