Variety reports Sigourney Weaver will co-produce and star in Prayers for Bobby, about a conservative woman whose gay son takes his own life.

The Lifetime movie is based on Leroy Aarons' 1995 book (shop Amazon) that depicts the true story of a family's opposition to their son's homosexuality. Weaver's character questions her stance against her son's sexual choices after he falls into a deep depression and eventually commits suicide.

Russell Mulcahy — who directed Showtime's Queer as Folk — will call the shots on the Lifetime telepic. — J.R. Whalen

What?!? An anti-gay conservative questioning her beliefs?

Now, talk about an implausible plot (whether it's based on a true story or not).
