Showtime Announces L Word Spin-Off

Katherine Moennig, Laurel Holloman and Leisha Hailey in The L Word by Paul Michaud/Showtime

At Friday's executive session, Showtime chairman and CEO Matthew C. Blank announced a spin-off of The L Word, the cable net's lesbians-in-love soap opera.

Though the spin-off is in very preliminary stages, Blank confirmed that series creator Ilene Chaiken is working on a new series that will star one of the current cast members. Further, he said that the series finale of The L Word will feature an open-ended storyline that will continue in some online iteration until the spin-off begins airing, and then will become part of the spin-off's narrative.

The L Word's final season is scheduled to air in early 2009. Until then, let's chat. Which lady of L would you like to see front and center on the spin-off? — Mickey O'Connor

What about Californication? Has Showtime announced the premiere date yet?

I'm pretty sure Californication comes back in September, right around the same time they bring back Dexter. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Alice as the leading lady in the spin-off show. She's always been my favorite and I definitely think she can pull it off.

I agree. Alice is the only one I would like to see in a spin off. I would never watch Jenny. She is my least favorite character.

I would love to see a Shane spin off, she´s my favourite character by far, and I think Kate Moenning is such a charismatic actress that she can do about anything and I´d be interested in her storyline...however, if Jenny got the spin off, I would never watch it, have never been able to stand her whiny a**.....

I wanna see alice too but i think they need to put shane and alice togather because they always been friends and they been the one with the best role and they are perfect togather.

I'm glad there will be a spin off, But I'd like to see Katherine Moennig(Shane) in it still.

I knew it! I think Alice is the perfect character for the spin-off! Although Im bummed because this probably means the end of her relationship with Tasha..">
