Short Cuts: Veronica Mars, Ugly Betty and More!
Warner Home Video has issued a statement saying that due to "time constraints," solicited fan testimonial videos will not be included on the Veronica Mars Season 3 DVD set as planned. I knew I shouldn't have done mine naked.... Rep. Hilda Solis (D-Calif.) on Monday presented America Ferrera with a copy of the resolution she introduced to the House of Representatives, commending the Ugly Betty star on raising the profile of Latinos in popular culture.... The interminable penguin movie topped the DVD sales chart last week, while The Pursuit of Happyness was the No. 1 rental.... CNN's American Morning is replacing anchors Soledad O'Brien and Miles O'Brien with rising stars John Roberts and Kiran Chetry.

Must mean I'm a total news junkie, but I'm actually upset about the change at CNN. They played well off each other. It was easy to tell something was gonna happen, tho, watching the musical anchor chairs of the last few weeks.

Is this really what we want our government to be spending their time on?? That's ridiculous. No wonder our country is so screwed up.
Don't get me wrong, I love Ugly Betty and America Ferrera, but seriously, aren't there more important things to deal with than a tv show?

I know that WBHV is customarily chintzy on extras for ALL of its DVD sets (no commentary tracks from Lauren Graham on *any* Gilmore Girls set is a sin, BID), the fact that they were planning on including this fan testimonal extra on the VM set doesn't bode well at all for VM's future. We *could* assume that they aren't going the release the set until just before the fall season premieres, as happens now when we're all slammed with the previous seasons' sets for ALL returning shows, but most of these shows (except for WBHV shows) come with copious extras and even WBHV shows generally come with at least *some* extras -- except for Gg s6, which was understandably bare-bones due to the Palladinos' departure. Also RT is a DVD geek and his extras on the VM s2 set made up for the skinty extras on the s1 set.
So, it seems to me that VM is toast. It's going to be cancelled and the DVD set is going to be released sometime during the summer, while it's still in the minds of us in the viewership. So IMO, neither of the major polls mean a thing toward saving VM anymore. It's done.
Conversely and indirectly, VM's probable cancellation indicates more and more to me that the network is close to finishing the deal with at least one of the Gals (would have to be Lauren first) for s8 of Gg.

Also, I missed the obvious when I wrote the above comment -- since VM is doomed, including the fan testimonials would be absolutely heartbreaking and therefore that's IMO the *real* reason the fan testimonials are being left out.

Dude, *reruns* of Gilmore Girls get 70-80% of the ratings of *new* episodes of Veronica Mars -- and that's not even counting that PCD retainied 88% of the audience from a new episode of Gg. The problem is VM. As much as I like it, it delivers no ratings. It's toast.

Only because it wound up on a crappy network that compared even to cable channels, NONE of their shows get good ratings.

Even compared to other shows on the SAME network, VM is at the bottom of the barrel. Its a rating loser and always has been. I'm not knocking the show at all, it just doesnt do well where it counts, in the ratings!
