Short Cuts: Sarah Silverman, Babel and More!

The Sarah Silverman Program premiered to an audience of 1.8 million total viewers last Thursday, the best debut for a Comedy Central original since Drawn Together (2004).... DVD release dates have been set for Babel (Feb. 20, though I already have mine... coolness) and The Pursuit of Happyness (Mar. 27). Out on disc today, meanwhile, is The Grudge 2 starring Amber Tamblyn (who, again, bailed on a Q&A with moi. Bygones).... Wal-Mart and Hewlett-Packard are set to announce a deal that will have the retailer selling movie and TV-show downloads via its website, says Reuters. But will they offer "Always Lowe Prices" on St. Elmo's Fire and Brothers & Sisters?

LQTM, Matt.

The Pursuit of Happyness is still in the Top 10 box office results. Hmm... What is the usual time between movie release in theaters and DVD release? I just read an article yesterday about a movie being pulled from UK theaters out of protest to the DVD being released too early.

Shocked about Sarah Silverman. I watched the first episode and will never watch again. Sorry but I just hate her schtick, it's so obnoxious.

It's getting shorter and shorter. I believe the thinking here is "Strike while the awards-season buzz is hot," because once the Oscars come and go, that ship has sailed. Sure, a film like Babel could wait until after the Feb. 25 Oscars to street the DVD, but if all of its nominees swing-and-a-miss, it will have been for naught.

I always have to go to another website for DVD releases. Maybe you can devote a paragraph to your Today's News: Our Take every Tuesday that let's us know what came out on video that week? I'll bet you can make it informative and funny. Would it help if I told you that I like you more than Michael Ausiello?
