Schwarzenegger Aims to Terminate Writers' Strike
Hoping to prevent a lengthy WGA strike like the one that lasted 22 weeks back in '88, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday said he would be taking measures himself to end the current work stoppage. "I'm talking to the parties that are involved because I think it's very important that we settle that as quickly as possible, because it has a tremendous economic impact on our state," Reuters quotes him as saying.
Schwarzenegger says the "sad story" here belongs to the cast and crew members who will lose their jobs as television productions shut down. "The studio executives are not going to suffer, the union leaders are not going to suffer, the writers that are striking, they are not going to suffer," said the Governator. "Those are all people that have money."

FINALLY! I can agree with my govenator. I think the writers are being selfish to strike right before Christmas. I bet their kids aren't going to go without.

I disagree. Sure, some of the top writers won't suffer, but many will. Hollywood is a hit-or-miss industry and when you have a hit it's rewarding. But, many writers labor in obscurity. For every Tina Fey or Shonda Rhimes, there is another, unknown, writer barely making ends meet. Plus, considering the way the industry is set up, these creative people deserve part of the money that could not be made without their efforts. There are a lot of other unions who are supporting this because they know their time will come. Eventually, everyone should come out ahead. If this wasn't going on, the corporations would take everything and leave all the workers with nothing.

Wow, I cannot believe I am finally siding with Arnold.
I hope this ends quickly and with both sides somewhat satisfied.

Arnold is, one again, allowing the most insane words to spew from his mouth.
"Those are all people that have money."
He makes me want to puke.

I know there's never a good time to strike, but come on, these aren't air traffic controllers. But writer's deserve more of a share of the DVD sales and a share of the internet revenue. Their words contribute a great deal to a show's popularity. The networks shouldn't be the only ones that benefit. Let's see how fast the writer's contracts are addressed before they expire next spring.

Okay, I missed this part earlier. Arnold, you need to get your facts straight. Granted not all writers are going to suffer, but I can guarantee you that some will.

I know ... I'm already dreading my shows coming to an end. If this thing doesn't get resolved, its going to be a long, long, long spring (heck, I'm used to having nothing to watch in the summer ... with a few minor exceptions that is).

That is ridiculous. Many of the striking writers who are not so high-profile WILL suffer. However, fans can support the writers and make an effort to try to resolve his strike quickly and fairly! Go to www.fans4writers.com and www.unitedhollywood.com for more info.

Arnold - just lock everyone together in a room and don't let them out until this thing is over!

All of them being forced to listen to Arnold trying to articulate would probably speed up your scenario!

That's exactly what I said! Both parties should go in a room and work on a deal until they are both happy. No more of this "waiting for the other side to cave" crap!

In reality, they did do that. Last Sunday the WGA offered to take the DVD residuals off the table. The studios refused. The strike started the next day.
