Say "What?!" Faith Hill Insists She Didn't Dis Carrie
Responding to claims that she had an adverse (if not outright rude) reaction to Carrie Underwood being named female vocalist of the year at Monday night's CMA Awards — the people's Exhibit A, which can be found at YouTube, clearly shows Hill exclaiming, "What?!" — Faith Hill asserts that she did not undermine Underwood. "The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me," Hill says in a statement to the AP. "For this to become a focus of attention given the talent gathered is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving [winner]."
In light of Hill's "I was just pretending" stance, NATAS has proactively nominated her for an Emmy. Gonna be tough to beat.

I have trouble believing Faith was so stupid as to do it to the camera. She moved in to it. Odd.

I really have a hard time believing that she was pretending to be upset. I am SO happy that Carrie won!!!! I voted for her on American Idol and have loved her ever since!!!

Come on people. She was so joking. I really don't believe she's the type of person who would get upset about not winning an award, which by the way, is a joke anyway. The entire country music INDUSTRY is. Except for a few select artists, country music is crap. (Faith Hill and Carrie being 2 of the good ones)

But if it was a joke why not just say "Hey, I was just being funny. Obviously it didn't come across well. I wish Carrie the best."
Her statement isn't clear. "The idea that I would act disrespectful....is unimaginable to me." Um...
If she wasn't kidding then what the hell was she doing?
And if she WAS joking why not just say it and admit it was in poor taste? And if it was a joke it is still pretty disrespectful (unless Carrie was somehow in on the joke. I'm guessing she wasn't).
Either way, done seriously or in jest it was a pretty stupid thing to do. Having an ambiguous statement on her site isn't helping solve WHY she did it.

I don't understand why everyone is taking this so seriously. I bet you Carrie doesn't care at all. She's not saying anything and no one else in country music is, so it's only the media making a story out of nothing. That's all they do. Nothing interesting happened so they make a big deal out of nothing. It happens every day. Look at the Dixie Chicks. Look at he Madonna adoption. The only reason people even know about it is because of the stupid media people bringing it up CONSTANTLY. It's stupid.

Wow, sore loser much?
I'm actually surprised that Ms. Hill would actually be capable of a Kanye West-style freakout (though, admittedly, she didn't bum rush the stage like he did at the MTV Europe VMAs :p).
The sad thing is, I could've sworn that the look on her face prior to Carrie's name being announced was as if she were expecting to win. Now, I've always thought that Faith Hill was a bit of a humble lass, but maybe my assumptions were wrong.
Oh well - anyways, congrats to Carrie!

Carrie Underwood should not have won. She is not headlining any concerts. The other contestants can headline their own concert, so why would she be the winner?

I absolutely thought her face looked like she knew she was going to win. If no one else is talking about it, why did she feel she needed to issue a statement?

because the MEDIA is making a big deal out of it!
And what really ticks me off is people like Natalie Maines and Faith Hill get ridiculed for JOKING around on stage with their fans and that loser troy gentry can BUY a TAME bear, put it in a cage, KILL it and tape the whole thing with the intent to edit out the cage to make it look like it was done in the wild and no one cares. This guy bought a bear with the sole purpose of killing it and no one cares. People get death threats for TALKING and this guy gets put in magazines and on calendars. It's ridiculous.

Oh come on, she was laughing in the middle of that "arms in the air" and "what!?!?" reaction. I firmly believe that she was just joking. I like Faith Hill, even though I'm not a huge fan, but she was only joking around.
We'll leave the sour grapes to Kanye.

I still can't believe that anyone could actually think she was serious. It's so obvious that she was joking! I was shocked to see so many people making a big deal out of it. It's like people at message boards and the media both have to create drama to talk about. She made a joke, that's all.

She was totally joking! I saw it last night and thought it wasn't disrespectful to Carrie at ALL and in fact was a funny poke at the awards-event-thing. Come on, we all HOPE the artists do something other than the polite smile-and-clap.. I mean, she leaned into the camera to do it! nobody would do that if they were serious! Who has that little impulse control! (Oh wait.. sorry Kanye..)
