SNL Vets Do Las Vegas? Yeah, That's the Ticket!

The CEO of Broadway Video tells the New York Daily News that Lorne Michaels is "in the early stage of talking" with a major Las Vegas casino to create and stage a live Saturday Night Live revue. The plan would be for such former Not Ready for Prime Time players as Martin Short, Jon Lovitz and Julia Sweeney to recreate classic sketches as well as present new material. Ideally, top-shelf alumni à la Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and Steve Martin would pay special visits throughout the year.

Sounds interesting, I'd see it. I love me some Jon Lovitz.

I don't know...given the prices to see a show in Vegas I can't imagine paying that much to see these guys do skits we've seen a bunch of times before.

So, I know this is only slightly related, but "alums" is not a word, TV Guide!!! The front page of TV Guide changed the word "vets" to "alums." That just bugs me soooo much!!!

I applaud you MalTru for calling TV Guide on its misuse of yet another word or term. I have railed against its writers and editors for failing to realize that "hopefully" does not mean "it is hoped that" or "I hope" and that "chatting up" means "flirting with" not "chatting with".

The word they should have used is is "alumni" which is the plural for both alumna (female) and "alumnus" (male).

The American heritage dictionary definition of "alum": is:

Any of various double sulfates of a trivalent metal such as aluminum, chromium, or iron and a univalent metal such as potassium or sodium, especially aluminum potassium sulfate, AlK(SO4)2?12H2O, widely used in industry as clarifiers, hardeners, and purifiers and medicinally as topical astringents and styptics.

I'd like to see one of them do the Bass-O-Matic sketch.

Should anyone find a grammatical or other error in this or any other of my posts I'd like to mention that I'm not collecting a big fat TV Guide paycheck for my work as a professional journalist.
