Former vampire slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to topline Veronika Decides to Die, an indie drama to which Kate Bosworth was originally attached as star.

As told by Variety, the story concerns a severely depressed young woman who rediscovers her joie de vivre after learning that she has only a few days left to live because of the damage she did to her heart in a recent suicide attempt. Yeah, file that one under "Great Moments, Bad Timing."

Well, she must have finally watched her own movies too.

Remember, Buffy died several times, so SMG is rather used to it!

Sarah Michelle Gellar hasn't had a good role in years. She was great in Cruel Intentions and The Grudge did okay. Otherwise either she just made poor choices of movie roles or took the ones who would have her. She is current doing anything and everything to get her face back in the public eye. Bet she regrets all those remarks about Joss Whedon now.

kudagirl, she also seems to value her family over her career, as I just read this weekend that she turned down a lead role in Stardust because she and her husband make sure they never have conflicting work schedules and it was his turn to be on-site somewhere. Not a bad trait for a marriage to have.

Dianora, lots of actors put their marriages and families ahead of careers. If you notice lately she has been doing lots of interviews for movies she has been in and even done charity work with Johnson and Johnson to get her name back into the press. Lots of actors do charity work and keep it quiet. She gave an interview where she said she might give tv another try since she wasn't getting movie roles like she wanted. She has acted like a diva and burnt some bridges. She put down her show Buffy and made remarks about Joss Whedon. Neither Sarah or Freddy have done anything that really did box office or even was a really good role in a long time.

What did she say about Jose?

What did she say about Jose?

For a while after the show ended, both she and Joss felt that the other hadn't been as appreciative of the role and of the show as they should have been and they both made remarks in the media saying so. From the interviews I've read, they've since come down from those positions.

Alot of people here are making comments based on rumors. Kudagirl, I don't know if Joss and Sarah ever got along but there were never any true reports of Sarah ever being a diva. Don't believe the tabloids.

Neither SMG nor Joss Whedon ever made any negative comments about one another to the press. On the contrary, I specifically remember an interview right after Buffy ended in which Joss said that in all 7 years of the show, SMG never let him down once. In every SMG interview I've ever read, she's had nothing but good things to say about Buffy and what a special show it was. Get your facts straight, people. If she hated her time on Buffy so much, why would she be participating in the Buffy reunion for the Paley festival? She even said recently that she'd be willing to do a Buffy movie if the script was right.

Hasn't been just a few weeks ago someone posted links here to two different interviews with Sarah. In one she said Buffy "Jumped the Shark" after season 5. She said in another interview she was glad it was over because she didn't have to listen to Joss yell at her. Bad mouthing the show and Joss doesn't endear her to me. She made rude remarks about Susan Lucci when they worked together on AMC years ago. Sarah is the only person I have ever hear make any unkind remarks about Susan Lucci.

bluegrumpy, even David Fury discussed it back in 2004 at http://www.mikejozic.com/buffyweek6.html

But as I said, interviews in recent years suggest that they have left those positions behind and Sarah has for a long time been gracious about what the show did for her. A lot of fans seem to think she's a diva because she doesn't live and breathe the fandom the way they do.

I dunno... there's a big difference between "live and breathe the fandom" and "refuse to acknowledge and appreciate the fan base". And the latter is what I have sensed out of SMG.

I suppose I chose a more dramatic wording because I've never agreed with people who dislike her for that reason, achyfakey. The way I see it, she gave us 7 years of her life in exchange for our fandom. She looked bad next to her castmates and the rest of the Buffy/Angel crew, since everyone else so enthusiastically participated in fan events, and their participation definitely added to my enjoyment of the show, but in the end, all I really need are my 7 seasons sitting on my DVD shelf.

Sarah has always, ALWAYS said that she appreciates the fans and thinks highly of the fan community. She has never been above acknowledging Joss or the series. I have been reading interviews with her since the series began and I have never seen her say otherwise.

That interview with Fury? He doesn't even make a big deal out of it. It's his own interpretation of what he saw happening and doesn't really speak to what either party felt or said.
Especially since they both speak highly of each other all over the place. Does that mean that they love each other, or Sarah falls all over herself every time Joss' name comes up (like others he's worked with)? No.
I can't get over how people think of Joss as this god-figure while demonizing SMG. It makes no sense whatsoever. Especially since he's the one who can come across as just a little self important in interviews.

As for the roles that she has taken... Sarah has done moves that she thought were interesting. "The Return" was an interesting thriller, marketed to entirely the wrong audience.
"Southland Tales", I haven't seen and have heard mixed reviews for. Regardless, she chose to work with a director that she respected and wanted to work with.

Based on what I've seen of her film choices, she seems to take work that she finds interesting for whatever reason. People assume that just because she's not in every blockbuster that comes out, her career is a miserable failure. You need to realize that different actors pursue different things in their careers, and for different reasons. If she is doing what she wants to do, that would be called "success".

And a return to TV doesn't mean that she failed to accomplish what she wanted with movies. It means that she spent seven seasons, working 18+ hours a day, nine months out of the year, playing one character and she was tired. Movies let her take time to breathe after the show ended. Actors do it all the time. If she wants to go back to TV, maybe she feels ready to jump back into the grind.

Why do people feel the need to take perfectly normal decisions that actors make all the time, and turn them into signs of miserable failure and b!tchiness when it comes to SMG?
