Sam Raimi, the mastermind behind the Spider-Man trilogy, has found the leads for his upcoming weekly fantasy series, Wizard's First Rule.

Relative newcomers Craig Horner and Bridget Regan will star in the series, which is based on the eponymous book by Terry Goodkind, says the Reporter. Horner, who hails from Australia, will play Richard Cypher, a man who becomes a magical leader. Cypher joins the mysterious Kahlan (played by Regan) to try to put the kibosh on a tyrannical leader's who ostensibly ruining everyone's lives.

Production on the show starts this month in New Zealand, of course — the only country fit for magic and wizards. Could this new series match the action of Spider-Man? Only time (and some awesome special effects) will tell how Raimi's imagination translates to the small screen. — Anna Dimond

Hm. I love Sam Raimi, but I was not impressed by "The Wizards First Rule." The first book was okay, but it went downhill. In later books especially he really hits the reader over the head with his political views.(communism=evil, abortion=bad.)

The first rule of Wizards is that you don't talk about Wizards.

i agree..but to me, the books seem written for screenplays. i'm still working thru the series..and the foreshadowing is pretty thin..i've usually got it figured out about halfway thru the book...PERFECT for tv..lol!

who knows...it might be really entertaining on tv

I'd have to agree. For all their length, the books are pretty much fluff and wouldn't be hurt at all for having to compress the storyline. Of course, they all seem to have the same plot where Kahlan gets captured, Richard gets pissed and saves the day. The various books in the series do the equivalent of changing socks.

Apparently, Ms. Dimond is poorly suited to this occupation if her only reference to Sam Raimi is Spiderman.
Xena, Hecules, Cleopatra 2525, etc, etc
