Sackhoff Breaking Up with Bionic Woman? Reports Differ

Katee Sackoff, who plays rogue beta model Sarah Corvus on Bionic Woman, could be completely done with NBC's struggling series, and not because of the writers' strike. According to the blog of at least one Battlestar Galactica/Stargate SG-1/Atlantis convention attendee, Sackoff said at a public Q&A that she has a meeting with one of the producers after Thanksgiving, but does not expect to return to the show even if it does resume production. Sackhoff never came out and explicitly stated the reason for her breakup with the show, but reportedly through thinly veiled sassy comments and during a more private confab at a luncheon table, suggested "there isn't a lot of love going on between her and Michelle Ryan," says the blogger. — Erin Fox

UPDATE: Another attendee of the convention refutes the above account, saying in her own blog that during the public Q&A "at no time did Katee Sackhoff say that she was quitting the show or that she had any problem with Michelle Ryan. She did say that the show was a 'clusterfrak'" — and we, in turn, love her turn of a phrase!

no need for her to go down with the ship - after all, because of poor casting, she's not the "captain" anyway.

I say she's making the right choice.

They should have sarah kill jamie and then go one with the show with just katee, she's the only good thing about that show. Better yet, give Katee her own show. I'll watch her in anything.

Katee is the only reason I'll watch eps of this show from here on in. Michelle Ryan has the screen presense of a sock.

And not one of those interesting socks with pom-poms.

Katee Sackhoff was the best thing about that show.

Bionic Woman should do whatever is necessary to keep her around... if they want the show to survive.

Personally, I thought they were showing Katee too much-let's not forget she is not the star of the show. Also, Bionic Woman has turned into the biggest disappointment of the season for me. If it gets canned, I wouldn't miss it.

I really really really really wanted this show to work. I can't express how much I loved the original as well as the idea of a strong woman in these types of roles but this show just seems to leave out too much. I feel like there's been no character development and that we've really not been given any reason to love Jaime or to keep tuning in each week. My biggest concern is that now 'the powers that be' will believe that the idea of a show based on The Bionic Woman doesn't interest the viewing public when in reality it does. I'd love to see some unknown daytime actress who has been trained at eliciting emotion from her audience be recast as Jaime. I'd also love to see a team of writers who actually have a vision of the character and the show step in and create a feasible arch that's one part drama, action, comedy and Thriller in the same vain as Buffy, Xena and even Alias. Jaime should have a clear beginning and planned evolution and a likeability factor.

How on earth can this show be a candiate for resuming production? Is there some kind of bet between NBC execs to see how low it can go? Or are they just that desperate?

Ajamos:

As I've said before, Michelle Ryan was excellent in her other big TV role
("Eastenders" in the U.K.), so it isn't right to assume that she's a poor actress, when in fact I've seen her express a wide range of emotions very convincingly.

I don't know what went wrong with casting her as the Bionic Woman--perhaps affecting an American accent limited her range of vocal inflections (not EVERY good actor can necessarily do well speaking with an accent). She's certainly beautiful enough.

But the writers somehow made Sarah Corvis too strong an opponent--and too soon--for Jaime. And having most viewers root for the villain instead of the hero is not a good sign. I agree that there was not enough character development first, so we could get to know her a little more before being asked to cheer her on.

Have you done any independent confirmation of the report of one blogger?

LOL. If I was Katee I would give any reason to get off of that bombing show. Whew is it bad.

They should have waited until next year when BSG's final season airs and ends :( THEN, shot BW as a mini-series with Katee in lead and aired it on the Sci-Fi channel. That would have tested the waters. If it did well, then they could have continued it as a series. Eh, just my opinion...

Katee obviously, and rightfully so, has a dedicated fanbase (myself included).

I, too, have heard that Michelle Ryan was terrific in her British stuff -- accent work can mess up even some really terrific performers. And frankly, the BW writers have given her very little to work with; Jaime Sommers is a personality-free cipher. Too bad the BW writers didn't spend some quality time looking at Alias DVDs -- those writers knew how to make Sydney Bristow a strong, sympathetic, three-dimensional human being AND a kick-ass action heroine. They did create a personality for Sarah Corvis, and that combined with Katee Sackhoff's dynamite performance made for the only excitement BW ever generated. Sackhoff will no doubt find a better project that will propel her to stardom. I think she's the only one who has walked away from this particular train wreck with her reputation enhanced rather than tarnished.

I first watched this show because I was hoping for another Alias...when that CLEARLY was NOT going to happen...the only reason I continued to watch was for Katee Sackhoff

I'm happy shes off this show...this show sucks and it started with soo much potential

Katee sackhoff is way better than this (they definitely casted the WRONG bionic woman)
I'm looking foward to seeing what she does after BSG (BEST.SHOW.EVER!!)
