The Road to Oscar: NY Critics Put Up a United Front
Hot on the heels of Sunday's kudos handed out by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the American Film Institute, the New York Film Critics Circle has awarded its best-picture honor to... United 93. In other categories, Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) and Helen Mirren (The Queen) solidified their positions as front-runners in the Oscar race, while Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children) and Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) copped supporting honors.

I've also heard Matthew Fox bandied about for "We Are Marshall". It would be great for him to win and Emmy (which he should) and an Oscar in the same year!

It takes less time and space to list the roles that Forest Whitaker does not deserve an award for than to list the ones for which he does. That he wasn't even nominated for his performance as Charlie Parker in Bird remains one of the most shameful omissions in Oscar history.
And I hope that one day someone will explain to me why Helen Mirren who, even in her youth, didn't really fit into the traditional concept of "prettiness" remains one of the sexiest most attractive women I have ever seen. There aren't many actors who are her equal either. I hope they both win.
