Ratings: Six Appeal Rouses Winchester Boys
This Thursday's ratings rundown:
8 pm Opposite NCCA basketball coverage, Ugly Betty (10.76 mil) dropped 2.4 million total viewers from its last fresh outing to deliver its smallest audience since Nov. 23. Fox's 5th Grader (12.18 mil) won the hour, while Smallville (4.58 mil) slipped 500 thou from its last new episode.
9 pm Grey's Anatomy (22.4 million) came out on top with 4.8 mil fewer heads than its boffo Feb. 23 outing, but the key demos race wasn't even close. Scrubs (6.37 mil) was up 470,000 and Andy Barker, P.I. (5.85 mil) debuted to an audience 650K larger than the most recent 30 Rock. The big story, though, is that Supernatural, which only recently hit a season low, came through with its best numbers since Oct. 26: 3.54 mil.
10 pm In the battle of the newbies, ABC's October Road bested NBC's Raines, 14.3 million to 10.3 mil. October Road did three mil better than the latest Men in Trees, while Jeff Goldblum was up just 420,000 from ER.

Of course, let's also give due to Angel Cohn's well-received Q&A with the Jaredmeister....

not happy about the ugly betty viewership low...greys was its usual steady self...october road was quite nice. interested to find out where the story goes...glad that it had a good rating turnout (of course i still want my men in trees back)...if october road presents upcoming interesting story lines maybe there can be room for both (one on a different day...)

UB was great. Part of the viewership drop is that my mother had to go out last night and was unable to watch UB live. Are taping of shows counted in the ratings?

Maybe a lot of closet UB fans were watching basketball.
And why do so many people watch game shows? I don't understand.

It's a shame that Smallville dropped so much last night, cause it was actually a very good episode! After six years, Smallville finally found different ways to tell its story. I was riveted for the whole hour!

Did ABC even promote that Betty was new last night? I wouldn't have known had I not seen it on this site.

"Six Appeal Rouses Winchester Boys" Hee... that's great!
I loved to see two of my shows in a way come together. And do well I see! Go Supernatural!
Now how about Jared and/or Jensen on BSG... maybe they are one of the final five models!!!

Matt, will ABC have figures for Raines for tonight?
I watched October Road last night because I knew Raines would be rebroadcast tonight......

Thanks, Matt! Awesome news for Supernatural! Hopefully some of the new viewers liked what they saw. It was a fantastic episode.
Too bad about the Smallville drop, that was one its seasons best eps. Ditto Ugly Betty.

Of course "October Road" did better than the most recent "Men in Trees." It was something that people could sample from the start, whereas if you missed the Friday episodes of "Men in Trees" you were reluctant to start in the middle. At least that's what happened in my case. That said, I won't be tuning in to "October Road" again. [I taped NBC, so I'll see about those premieres this weekend].

Whew, I finally come back from an internet outage to see some pretty good news! Thanks, Matt - love the headline!
Last night's Supernatural was a good episode for new viewers - lots of exposition. I just hope if anyone new did tune in for TH, they don't think all SN eps are so full of Ghost Whisper-y sap. There was just a leeettle too much of earnest, soft-spoken Sam, and the music last night reminded me of old-fashioned movie soundtracks (which actually was kinda cool - but it didn't help the usual dark mood of the show).
Good for Scrubs, too!
