Beauty and the Geek by Michael Desmond/The CW
This Tuesday's tallies:

8 pm/ET
American Idol averaged 29.33 million total viewers over its two-hour run. That's up 1.1 mil week-to-week and on par with last year's Top 12 performance show. Biggest Loser (doing 7.66 across two hours) was down a million-plus. Beauty and the Geek scored a date with just 1.88 mil, a 44 percent plunge from last season's opener.

9 pm
Big Brother (5.92 mil) dropped 800K, while One Tree Hill sank 550 thou to hit a season low of 2.45 mil.

10 pm
Trailing an SVU repeat and ABC's Primetime (7.5 mil), Jericho matched last week's 5.87 mil. Coming next week: My video Q&A with the Skeetster!

What's your take? Are we, at long last, all Geek'd out?

I don't think we're Geek'd out, per se.

I think The CW would've pulled 1.88-million viewers if it had just aired static last night.

You can't expect anything on The CW to stand a chance against the Idol machine. The CW's ENTIRE demographic tunes in to see Seacrest & Co.

(I'm over 25 - and not a woman - so they don't care about me - but I watched me some Geek at 8.00 and timeshifted Idol.)

I did the same thing, SupahStah (although I'm 22 and a woman, just the demo they want).

I always really admired the fact B&G was able to reinvent itself every season. It was never the same show (which is why I have become tired of AI and will probably tune out toward the end, like I normally do). The challenges were never the same, the elimination rounds changed, and the way they picked the winner was always interesting. It was fresh, and that's the reason why I kept tuning in. But now? They've taken it a step too far. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep watching this season or not. It's not B&G. I'll give it a couple more episodes before I decide.

The problem is all networks aired reality tv at the 8pm hour, not everyone likes reality tv, you need counter programming, jeesh!!!!

I've never been a devoted fan of B&G, but I enjoy watching it from time to time. But I have no desire to watch it this year. The charm of this show was watching the relationships develop between the partners as they encouraged and taught each other for each challenge. I don't see how that can happen when they are competing against each other. I understand trying to switch things up, but this change was too much.

Ratings are complete bollocks. Unless I am understanding this wrong, isnt ratings strictly based on people with Nielsen boxes? If so, then BOLLOCKS! Because there are millions of people watching shows that arent being counted. Same with people taping on DVR's.

Whatever. OTH for the win!

It's hard for a lot of shows to compete against American Idol. I enjoy American Idol and One Tree Hill. This season of One Tree Hill is great and I look forward to the episodes. For the most part, I watch them online because my husband enjoys American Idol as well. The CW don't post the episodes quick enough though. I sometimes go to FanPop and watch my episodes there.

Why couldn't this've happened BEFORE The CW renewed One Tree Hell for another season.X-(

I'm a 17 year old male, but I'm also gay and I LOVE teen dramas! Just One Tree Hell and its horrible dialogue makes me cringe to no end.

One tree hell?? OMG I LOVE that name. You can't blame American Idol, because OTH was up against AI last week and it did fine. It's because OTH is HORRIBLE again (the only reason I'm watching is becasue there is nothing on right now. The minute BSG, Gossip Girl, THe Office, Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, Lost, etc back in April...OTH don't stand a chance. True is was "somewhat" interesting for a few episodes, but now its like all the other seasons all over again...can't say I'm suprised.

devioussmileox, Same with people taping on DVR's.

Not to be picky but nobody tapes on a DVR. They digitally record.
On subject, my wife likes both AI and B&tG so she watches one and records the other. Unfortunately we are too old to be in anybody's demographics except the local funeral home.

Here's an idea - crack open a book! TVs don't require constant viewing.
