Ratings: Housewives Shoots and Scores

A few Sunday-ratings headlines:

— 7th Heaven, up 700,000 total viewers week-to-week, had its biggest audience (3.83 million) since being moved from Monday.
— Desperate Housewives' gunplay was witnessed by 22.5 million, the series' best draw since the season opener. Brothers & Sisters, in turn, was up more than a mil, and had its own best audience since Oct. 1.

And some Friday footnotes:

— In its new home, Vanished (3.35 mil) was on par with, say, time-slot predecessor Nanny 911, but lost nearly half its average Monday audience.
— This is unsettling: A special 9 pm edition of 20/20 (7.86 mil) outperformed the previous week's Men in Trees by a million heads.
— Despite a 300K dip for lead-in Las Vegas (8.95 mil), Law & Order and its Mel Gibson riff surged 1.9 million, to 10.7 mil.

Poor poor Vanished. Hopefully it can make it to the end of its run.

It was a particularly interesting topic on 20/20 though. So much so that since Men in Trees wasn't on I didn't feel like it was Friday for some reason and I forgot to just change the channel and watch Battlestar Galactica.

Did the rerun of Grey's go up at all? This just shows that maybe Men in Trees has a faithful audience on Fridays but it'd be better, say, on Wed/Thurs nights. I personally would just die if they gave me a night of Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, and Men in Trees. It's as if they got a peek at my tv Christmas list early if that happened along with my Thurs. night comedy block going back on NBC.

I just recently discovered Brothers & Sisters and I love it. Glad to hear it was up in the ratings!

Housewives was also the best episode that I've seen of the show in a long time.

I agree, it was the best Housewives episode I've seen in awhile. But that Brothers & Sisters episode was the best hour of TV so far this season.

Brothers & Sisters was GREAT! Law & Order was also really good - Chevy Chase was absolutely phenominal.

Good news for many shows, such as Housewives. It will be interesting to see how the ratings are for the first "outing" of How I Met Your Mother after Neil Patrick Harris came out.

Vanished is dead. Stick a fork in it. I guess that's what happens when you:

a. Kill off the lead character, and the only likable person on the whole cast,
b. take the show off the air for more than a month, and
c. banish it to Friday night with virtually no ad support.

Frankly, it's really not worth watching anymore anyway.

The following is an encore presentation of many previous posts: "Vanished was never worth watching.". And why would the CBS Monday comedy audience be reading online "news" about NPH? I doubt if there will be a ratings bump unless the audience was already surfing the web about the latest gossip on the Ghost Whisperer and stumbled across it only to say it was obvious he was gay on Doogie.

Fridays episode of Vanished was excellent but definately could've used some publicity. I'm sure lots didn't know it was there. Even with publicity, do you know how many people don't know Lost is going on hiatus?

As far as 20/20 doing better than last weeks Men in Trees, there was no choice but to watch 20/20 and the topic was somewhat interesting.

What about sunday nights football game. Colts-Patriots HAD to have done really well. I know that's what I watched.

Brothers and Sisters for me is the best show on tv. The writing is smart, funny and relatable, the acting is understated, the directing shows intelligent humor, music is infused cleverly - all leave room for the viewer to discover subtleties instead of being bored or insulted with paltry uninspiring tvland offerings. I have so much anticipation during the week and Sunday night set the recorder in order to see the episodes as much as I want until next Sunday night. And the repeat viewings don’t get stale, to the contrary, I pick up things I missed the previous viewings. If this show was food, I would be gaining weight!

"Vanished is a victim of trite writing, ridiculous plotting and pretty pathetic acting." per Matt

If it starts out trite & ridiculous which is the writing & plotting that would equal pathetic acting by ALL, because the actors are only as good as the material which has been given to them.

good writing + good plotting, makes the actors sound good & look even better which = loyal viewers = good ratings, which = HEROS

That Hiro is so good!Almost hot! Believe me it's the writing because I don't understand a word coming out of his mouth!
