Ratings: Good News for Betty and Earl, Bad for Mer
Thursday's recap:
8 pm/ET With Survivor snuffed, Ugly Betty looked pretty with 8.5 million total viewers, up a half mil week-to-week. Earl was No. 1 in key demos, and surged 16 percent (7.2 mil) with its season finale. Smallville's season-ender (3.8 mil) trailed a CSI repeat, and dipped 160K.
9 pm CSI wrapped its year with an audience of 18.1 mil, while Grey's Anatomy (15.5 mil) matched a record low in demos for a Thursday original. The Office drew 8.2 mil for its season finale, up almost a mil. Supernatural scored 2.9 mil with its helluva finale, up 370 thou.
10 pm Trace was champ with 14.5 mil, as Lost (11 mil) slipped another 280K. ER had 8.4 mil tune in for its season-ender, up 800 thou.

Good for Supernatural! That show is criminally underappreciated and under promoted - I wish I had the power to shake some network executives and make them sit down and watch that show! I really wish CBS would rerun it this summer from the beginning. They are part owners of the CW, so why not try to build the audience for it during the summer repeat season on CBS? It sure would be better than all the miserable reality shows they put on during the summer. Sigh.

I'm glad to hear Grey's viewers appear to be reacting to the dip in quality. This was the first episode I chose not to watch (even though there wasn't a 30 Rock to keep me amused). It's time for Shonda to grab the reigns again and bring some substance to the scripts.
I'm also happy for Earl and to a lesser extent Betty. I haven't watched Trace yet, but I loved Lost. I can't wait for the big 2-hour double-sided season-ender!

Who or what is "Mer"?

"Mer" (pronounced "Mare") is short for Meredith Grey, the horrible, whiny shrew of a title character from Grey's Anatomy. You know. The character without whom that show would be so much better!

Lost seems to be breaking a new record every week, with each episode being the new series low.

I keep hearing about how Grey's Anatomy is "better than ever" and "back on top". Really? It's more shrill and ridiculous than ever before, if you ask me. The Addison returns episode notwithstanding, I think Grey's has never been worse and judging by those ratings, I'm clearly not alone.

The CSI finale was hard to accept, but I saw it coming. Well, we now have a cliffhanger for Grisson and the gang to solve next September.
So much for saving the bees this year, Gil.

Supernatural scored 2.9 mil with its helluva finale, up 370 thou. While everyone else seems to struggle, Supernatural gains ground as more viewers discover this hidden gem.
So, everyone who is disappointed in the quality of TV now and wants to jump ship from Grey's, come on over to Supernatural. Trust me, this is a show you can get excited about.
It may be on a small network, have no promotion, and be off the radar, but seriously, it is the best show on TV. Once a new viewer finds and watches the show 9 outta 10 are hooked.
It has amazing acting, writing and a real depth to it while also giving you the scares, action and comedy that is initially noticed when you first glance upon the pretty packaging. Once you meet and know the Winchesters you too will be captivated by their complex and very real brotherly bond.
It don't get any better than this. Give it a try.
