« Today's News: Our Take
Ratings: Friday Night Alive
A few Tuesday-night ratings rumblings:
ABC's Depositioning Dancing with the Stars juggernaut lured another million to the Tuesday dance floor, leading the night with 21.08 mil. Versus last week, an additional 300,000 turned out for Friday Night Lights (6.6 mil). I'm actually hearing full-season pickup buzz. Stay tuned.... Surging 500,000 shrunken heads, Help Me Help You came within 0.04 of besting Law & Order: CI during the 8:30 half hour. Veronica Mars, down 300,000 last week, reclaimed most of that loss this time around (3.22 mil). A repeat of Criminal Minds (10.33 mil) further validated CBS' decision to snuff Smith, which was drawing almost two million fewer viewers in the 10 pm slot.
UPDATE: Friday Night Lights fans, the Ausiello Report has some big news about the show's immediate future. Mind you, this is likely the "announcement" that I heard was en route.

An increase can only be a good thing for FNL. Full season pickup? That would only make my life, AND restore my faith in the fact that quality television might actually stay on the air these days.

Excellent news that Friday Night Lights picked up new viewers!! Compliments to everyone who has been promoting the show, and compliments to viewers for tuning in for excellent tv.
Ditto Veronica Mars!
Full season pick-up buzz for FNL?? Did Christmas come early this year? That would be the Best.Gift.Ever.

yay for Veronica Mars!!! And it was great to see Weevil back in action. He's so adorable.
I still can't believe that many people watch Dancing with the Stars. It really makes you realize the kind of people who are a Nielsen family. If they are satisfied with watching that, then I understand how quality shows don't have higher ratings.
Why can't they just give everybody whatever it is needed to count the viewers? It's so frustrating.
I'm not from the US, I'm from Spain, but the same happens here. I have never met anybody who is a Nielsen family (here it's Sofres instead of Nielsen). And everytime I read the ratings they never match what I watch or what any of my friends watch.

Oh sweet God in heaven, that would be just awesome if NBC picked up FNL.
Matt, you really are my new hero. Especially with the buzz flying around Dancing, I was almost certain I was going to read about how many viewers FNL lost, and how many more tuned out after the first half hour. But it gained! I'm celebrating every little bit of good news.
But Matt, what about Gilmore Girls??
(Haha, just kidding. Wanted to see if your cut-and-paste finger was cramping yet.)

Please don't let "full season pickup buzz" for Friday Night Lights be a joke! I've been telling everyone I know to start watching this show, and so far, no one has been disappointed. Here's to 300,000 more viewers next week, and so on, and so on....

Please don't let "full season pickup buzz" for Friday Night Lights be some sort of cruel joke! I have been telling everyone I know to watch this gem, and so far, none have been disappointed. Here's to 300,000 more viewers next week, and so on and so on...

Mary... I had the same fears given all the buzz around Sara Evans on Dancing. I'm sure glad we were wrong! Whoo-hoo!

Mind you, it's just a few crumbs of FNL pick-up buzz, from 1-1/2 sources thus far. You have to admit it'd be rather surprising at this early, see-saw-like stage in the "game." (Football metaphor!)
I reserve the right to punt my tease.

I was talking with my mom (I'm on the west coast, she's on the east) and she told me she was watching DWTS. I actually cried out in pain, "NO!! Don't watch that! Watch Friday Night Lights!!" I'm so happy there were more people tuning in to see my boy Kyle Chandler last night!

My mother also watches Dancing with the Stars. So it seems that that's the demographic for that show, and probably they're the ones who have the Nielsen thingy that records what they watch.
Actually, what my mother watches is the Spanish version of DWTS (‘Mira Quien Baila!), but it's the same thing.

I too would like to know what the Gilmore girls ratings were. I personally hope they tanked. I thought I heard their viewership was down from previous years and just would like verification. Thanks.

Ditto! Wooooohooooo! Glad to see us viewer's word of mouth promotion efforts are doing some good since I haven't seen much coming from NBC. However, if they keep my favorite new show around I will gladly forgive them.

Wow those are some impressive ratings for DWTS. I mean right now CSI, Desp Housewives and Grey's Anatomy are pretty much the top three in varying orders. Seems that DWTS may CRACK that top three this week and going forward as the finale approaches!
