Ratings: Those Dancing Stars Dominate Yet Again

There's a lot to cover for this Monday, so let's rip into the ratings:

Dancing with the Stars topped the evening, averaging 21.2 million total viewers over its 90-minute run. (That's on par with its previous season-opener.) Lead-out The Bachelor, however, dropped its partner, managing just 9.56 mil (a 500K dip from Officer and a Gentlemen's debut).

• CBS' comedy lineup did as follows: Mother, 8.27 mil, down 2.2 mil from last year's launch; newcomer The Big Bang Theory, 9.58 mil, a marked increase on HIMYM's lead-in; Men, 13.45 mil; and Rules of Engagement, 12.09 mil.

• On NBC, Chuck got his geek on to the tune of 9.3 million. That led into Heroes, which with 14.12 mil nearly matched its series premiere, and certainly improved on last May's season-ender. Journeyman (9.5 mil) then let slip nearly a third of its lead-in.

• Fox's Prison Break (7.27 mil) slipped a bit from its premiere, while 31 percent fewer people decided to return to K-Ville (6.16 mil).

• Monday's No. 2 powerhouse, CSI: Miami, launched its new season with 14.8 mil, a drop of 2.4 mil from a year ago.

POLL: What are you watching "live" Wednesdays at 9 pm? Vote here.

Damn. What does this mean for HIMYM? It better go up. Fast.

That's great for Heroes. Is that good for Chuck?

I cannot believe that for HIMYM. I wonder if people didn't realize it was at 7/8 instead of 7:30/8:30. Let's see how next week's rating look.

Also, Matt, ask your PTB where the HIMYM blog is please. There's gonna be an uprising if there isn't one.

Hey, anyone else feel like Lean Cuisine for lunch today??

HIMYM and RULES should exchange time slots!

I'm worried this will be the final season of HIMYM, NOOOOOO!

why would people tune in to the big bang theory but not watch Mother? What were they doing that first 1/2 hour?

I really HATE 'reality' shows. NBC has the best lineup of the night and Mother is one of the funniest shows on tv, definitely top 2 with 30 Rock.

Uh oh. I hope that isn't bad news for K-ville. I actually tried to watch, but you know season premier of Heroes. I hope they do encore episodes of K-ville.

Hi Matt -- To echo the sentiments of an earlier poster -- where is the HIMYM blog?!! Come on, if not for the great break-up beard, just for the last night phone call to Barney -- www.slapcountdown.com. It's (wait for it) legendary!!!

OK, I wasn't that impressed with the pilot for HIMYM (aside from the fact that they said from the beginning that Ted didn't marry Robin - who I love), but I'm jumping on the bandwagon after catching the summer reruns and laughed OUT LOUD at the premiere last night. Loved the breakup facial hair, the slap countdown and Mandy Moore. These guys aren't re-inventing the wheel, but it's a really funny show. Those of you with the DVR's, record this and Chuck.

I'm glad to see Chuck did well. That was a nice little show.

K-ville deserves the slip, and should rightfully be the first show cancelled this season (unless you count Anchorwoman, and who does?).

Loved Heroes and am happy to see its ratings remain solid.

My only problem with Heroes is that there are already so many people to keep track of, and now they've gone and added everybody except the lady who splits in two in the Caduet ads.

But I do like most of the new characters, so I guess I can't complain too much.

How sad is it that the one quality show in CBS' Monday lineup is the one that did the worst? I know CBS promoted Big Bang Theory to death, but still. The show sucks.

I had hoped Chuck would do better than that.
