Ratings: The CW's Lazy Sunday Continues

This Sunday, as NBC's football coverage tackled 16 percent more total viewers, with an audience of 15.8 million:

7 pm/ET
While CW Now (852,000) and Online Nation (762,000) posted "gains" of 72K and 64K, respectively...

8 pm
The CW's Life Is Wild premiered to 1.64 million viewers. (Perspective check: Girlfriends and The Game were putting up Sunday-night tallies of about 2.7 mil a year ago.) Extreme Makeover: Home Edition matched last week's 11.66 million. How about that master bedroom suite? Sweet.

9 pm
Housewives dominated with 17.41 mil, down 1.6 mil week-to-week. (Anyone else see that Gaby "confession" coming down Broadway?) Cold Case (12.82 mil) slipped 700 thou.

10 pm
Brothers & Sisters — aka the show with that shameful "Justin's funeral" on-air promo (I pity the poor spoilerphobes) — slid 1.1 mil to 12.21 mil. Shark (11.2 mil) dipped 230K.

"CW" should change it's slogan to "Can't Win"

I don't usually watch anything on Sunday nights - I use that night as catch up on my DVR - but I wanted to check out "Life is Wild" and give it a try. I have to say I went into it expecting to find it a boring hour of television, and I did not at all. I throughly enjoyed every minute of it. More then anything though, I really enjoyed the scenery and the animals - it was just so fun to watch!! Not to mention the great interaction between the newly formed family. I can believe it got such a low rating though because not much has really been heard about it, at least not that I have seen and I am on Television based websites constantly, so hopefully those who did watch it last night enjoyed it as much as I did and will spread the word to their friends and family to get them into watching it also, and we can maybe see it bring in a least a few more million next week.

Hey Matt,

What about Dexter's ratings? Did it hold onto its first week's million viewers?

To Amy22 - Life is Wild is an American takeoff of the original BBC America show, Wild at Heart - you may want to check that out as well.

ha ha Matt! That cracked me up.

I was also pleasantly surprised by Life is Wild. I really enjoyed it. Which means it will be cancelled asap.

The CW is last because they SUCK...PERIOD! All they care about is the stupid teeny bopper audience...Screw That! Too bad they were so stupid to let Charmed go, when they had a good ratings winner on Sunday nights..but no...get rid of it and add all this crap for the teens..DUMB DUMB DUMB
Networks need to realize there are more people out there that watch TV besides silly teenagers!
CW can go to Hell! They SUCK!

I had thought that I wouldn't watch "Life is Wild", but then when I heard Nina from Everwood was on it, I couldn't say no and I really liked the show. Unfortunately it had really low ratings it seems, so even though its on the CW who knows if it'll stay on. I hope it does.

After that I watched the season finale of "Side Order of Life" on Lifetime. I love that show and I'm hoping it gets a renewal for a second season!

Matt, btw, do you know how SOOL did in the ratings last night (and also last week to compare with)? I'm really curious to know.

Have seen both Life is Wild and Wild at Heart - and think they are both great! I usually don't like the American adaptations! Hope it sticks around. After all, most other shows on the CW are doing poorly!

Also interested in numbers for Side Order of Life - great series - and a great finale!

How B&S lost viewers after last week, I don't know. But it seems everything is going down. How frustrating.

Charmed cracks 4 million when it was aired on Sunday.

They should not have cancelled Reba, it has good ratings despite a poor timeslot. It could have been a good lead in for Life is Wild.

Poor CW, the only show doing good there is Smallville and also Friday Night Smackdown

CW should better fix their Sunday schewdule. come on, who need an encore of America's Next Top Model?

What...are we trying to compete with Marc Berman now here?

Of note -- those Girlfriends/The Game episodes on the year-ago evening were repeats, as this was week the CW swapped its Sunday/Monday lineups...even more embarassing for the weblet.

And absolute jeers to ABC for trying to lure viewers into such a fantastic drama by making them feel as though we'd be watching Justin's funeral. The heart-wrenching Justin/Nora scenes alone would've been sufficient for a 'typical' B&S promo.

Good. The CW is getting exactly what it deserves. That's what you get for cancelling Reba, your #1 sitcom. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

The CW should have kept Everwood, Veronica Mars and gotten Once and Again. Everwood had 4-6 mil
while Once and Again had 6-8 million viewers. They should start promoting Supernatural which is a great fit with Smallville. They could buy the rights to Providence and start thinking that maybe entire families might just want to watch shows together. Instead, they pander to ?????? .. they deserve to do badly because they have a narrow view of what viewers want and cater to what they see as their young demographic!
