"Model Prisoner" Kiefer Sutherland Will Be Serving 48 Days Straight

Kiefer Sutherland will be serving his just-begun 48-day jail stint in one stretch, a spokesperson for the lock-up tells People, saying, "There's no way he's getting out early, unless a judge orders otherwise, which is unlikely." The same jail rep describes the 24 star as a "model prisoner," adding, "He's not happy to be here, but you can tell from his demeanor that he's sorry and takes responsibility for what he's done."

Sutherland, says the weekly, spent his first full day behind bars folding laundry, and has also been assigned to serve meals to the other inmates — one of whom was recently pinched for the attempted murder of four people. Um, if that guy asks for extra napkins, give them to him!

What does that say about his family if he decided to spend the holidays in jail rather than with them!

well, he's not married and his kid(s) are grown, so it's probably not that big of a deal.

I read that part of doing this was that by serving his time now, he will be disrupting the set of 24 at a minimum, thus making sure everyone involved with the show has their employment effected as little as possible. I'm glad to see he's taking responsibility for his actions in such a selfless manner. I don't condone nor excuse his DUI but I do give him credit for stepping up in such a manner.

Well he will be in jail for Christmas, New Years and his birthday!

Happy Holidays!

You know, it's a sad day when these little pampered celebrities get treated so gently and released so early because "it's common because of overcrowding" but if it's a celebrity who isn't such a princess, they get their full stay. Oh well, that's life.

While Mr. Sutherland surely should not have been driving (I will never understand why they don't get drivers, especially if on probation), he is most certainly doing the right thing by serving his time immediately. With the writers' strike and the holidays, he will be minimizing suffering for others, and if that means he suffers a bit more, it is still the right thing to do. Glad to see someone in trouble out there who knows that.

I am very proud of you Mr. Sutherland. You stood up and took your responsibilities and consequences like a man and did what you could to see to it that the impact on others was minimal. Hey, everybody makes mistakes. Thank you for owning up to it.
