Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen are on board to star in The Prisoner, an update on the 1960s cult hit that will air as a six-part miniseries on AMC next year.

Caviezel will play the title role of "Number Six" and McKellen will costar as "Number Two."

The 1960s series — an espionage thriller set during the Cold War — is being updated with a focus on security and surveillance while retaining the franchise's trademark socio-economic commentary. — J.R. Whalen

Wow! So The Prisoner US is back on!

Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellan are definitely good actors, should be interesting to see how they will portray the roles in 2008/9.

I hope they will also retain the trippy, out there, only in the 60s wierdness in some way.

Oh, and The Rover!! They better keep the weather balloon! :-D

I wonder where it will be filmed? That village in Wales is too trippy to be re-created.

I am a very big fan of The Prisoner, and I own all the DVD set (I had owned the VHS as well!). I think Ian McKellan would be great as Number 2, but, although I really like Jim Caviezel, I would not have cast him as Number 6. I might have gone with Clive Owen or Christian Bale or even Guy Pearce.

Imzadi- Guy Pearce would have been awesome! I like Jim Caviezel, but he seems just a bit too mellow to play 6. Who knows? Maybe he'll surprise us all and blow our socks off. Here's hoping!

Lester- You are so right- they need the big bouncing beach ball (at least that's what I called it when I was a kid watching the show- hee!)
