Prison Break Con's Sentencing Delayed

Yesterday, Lane Garrison, who pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, was ordered to undergo 90 days' worth of evaluation by parole officers and psychologists in prison. Then, on Halloween, he will be sentenced — likely to probation and no further jail time.

Since his involvement in the wreck that killed a 17-year-old, the actor has appeared to take responsibility for his actions, even going so far as to tape the most graphic PSA in recent memory. "I think [every day] about the bad decision I made," he reiterated in court. "All I can say to you is, 'I'm so sorry.'"

The father of the deceased, for one, doesn't want to hear it. "He is an actor," he railed. "He is acting." The DA is majorly against the three-month observation, too, and is going to try to get Garrison four years in the pokey.

Sorry but I'm in Lane's corner here! What he did was dispicable and in no way am I condoning what he did. Why do I support Lane - because he has held himself accountable for his actions, he is sincere in his apologies and he pled guilty to the charges. Name any other actor aout there (Paris, Lindsay, Nicole, Britany) that would have done this? No - they would have used their celebrity checkbooks and would have hired a lawyer and would have tied up the courts with this mess!

Lane's time would be better off doing PSA's and speaking publically about what can happen when you drink and drive. With his celebrity status he may even be able to get through to the youth of today!

Yes he's an actor, but that doesn't make him a good actor. Still I'm surprised he's going to get away with a slap on the wrist just because he appologized. If we were talking about Isiah Washington havign done this crime, he'd already be serving the 4 years, maybe more. Nope nothing racial in this decision.

All due respect Ranger99- Paris, Nicole Lindsay and Britney...none of them took the life of a young boy from this world.

While I do agree that the PSA's might get out to todays youth, I cant imagine how heartbreaking this must be to the family of the boy. If anything it lets our youth know that the rich and famous can quite literally- get away with murder....shameful

YET!

Maybe this happening to him might get through to them - exactly my point!

To come up with some hypothetical situation involving Isaiah Washington and speculate on what kind of sentence he would get is preposterous.

But, if someone really wants to go that route, I can think of at least one high-profile African-American celebrity who got away with murder.

Anybody want any Orange Juice?

Is it just me, or is wildbill a little stupid for breaking out the race card? NEWSFLASH! That's not what it's about.

Ok, now on his situation. Yes it's sad that he killed this boy, he has to deal with it for the rest of his life. But to the victim's parents, Lane will never be redeemed for his actions in their eyes because he took a life by being irresponsible. And I think that it's good that he's out there doing these PSA's. People say that he's doing it because he's an actor (he's acting), and he's not really that remorseful, no. He's doing it because he knows first hand what damage driving under the influence can really do. Something that Paris and Lindsay can't really comprehend yet. But the question remains, do he need to serve time? Sadly yes. But severely punishing him is not going to bring the victim back. Let the big man upstairs handle him.

Yes, wycked1, I agree. It's all about the difference between justice and revenge.

wycked, that's very clever! You isolated the part of your post that might get removed so that your other post will remain unscathed!

I wish I had thought of that a few times!

;)

And, yes, I agree with your comments.

The underlying issue on this is the hierarchy of punishment. Someone who commits murder purposely and premeditatedly should be punished more than someone who accidentally commits murder. Granted, Garrison drank and drove, but he clearly never intended to kill someone.

I also get tired of people never accepting any statement from an actor as sincere because "he's an actor -- he's acting." Acting may be their job, but it doesn't mean they are lying 24 hours a day. Unless their name is Isaiah Washington. I'm just kidding. I'm so glad we can now look back on that and laugh. Ha, ha.
