CBS Rings Up Price Is Right Throughout May Sweeps

The Price Is Right Million Dollar Spectacular returns to prime time on CBS Wednesday night (April 30, 8 pm/ET) for a four-week sweeps run.

The Drew Carey-hosted specials have proved to be as lucrative for CBS as Plinko is for lucky contestants. Six previous episodes that aired in February, March and early April won their time slots in the key demos — adults 18-49 and 25-54.

In fact, one episode in March, in which a contestant won more than $1 million in cash and prizes, ranks among the highest-rated Price specials in the past five years. — J.R. Whalen

I don't know Drew Carey personally so I don't want to sound mean, but I can't watch that show with him as a host. I have tried. He comes off as rude to the contestants in my opinion because he makes snarky comments to them and doesn't truly seem like he cares about the game show, the contestants, or the viewers.
Its a darn shame too because TPIR is a game show that I would watch fairly regularly.

The only reason it won it's time slot on Friday was because it didn't have any competition. Now, it will be up against American Idol and Deal Or No Deal. We will see how Drew really does against some tough competition. I am a game show nut and have always enjoyed watching The Price Is Right, but now it is getting very painful to watch. I've always enjoyed Drew on all of his shows, but he doesn't seem right for TPIR. Drew just seems like he doesn't care about the show or the contestants. He is definitely a better host on Power Of 10. Supposedly, he goes in on weekends to learn the games and has learned about 30 and still has trouble explaining them. Even I know more games than him and know I wouldn't have trouble explaining them. Being a pet owner, 3 cats all spayed and neutered, I was pleased to hear he was keeping the plug at the end of the show, but I wish he would say it the way it was intended (This is Drew Carey reminding you, help control the pet population have your pet spayed or neutered), and not try to put his own spin on it. Drew Carey's contract is for five years, but I don't think he is going to last that long. He already looks bored. CBS should start looking for a replacement now before it is too late. I think CBS should start fresh and get a virtual nobody to host the show, rather than a celebrity. I would like to throw my hat into the ring. Given the chance, I realize I too will be compared to Bob Barker, and believe that my vast knowledge of game shows will help me persevere and bring back the class and dignity to this classic game show.
