Previewing the American Idol Finale, Simon Says....

Jordin's got pipes that cannot be beat. Blake rocks a contemporary beat. For that reason alone, Simon Cowell has no prediction to make about the forthcoming American Idol finale. "I can't call it, because I think they’ve both got different strengths," he told TVGuide.com during a conference call to tout the new (and totally improved) season of that other AI, ABC's American Inventor (premiering June 6). "One is a better entertainer, and one is a better singer. It will come down to what they do on [Tuesday]."

Later in the call, Cowell dissed the dismissal of critical darling Melinda Doolittle, but stopped short of saying it cripples Idol's credibility. "I didn’t agree with the vote, but more people should have dialed for Melinda," he said plainly. "When you allow the public to choose, you’ve got to live and die by the vote. It's as simple as that."

Reflecting on Idol's season gone by — one marked by a famously coiffed crooner — Simon confessed, "I like crazy. The panel is wacky, and therefore I think the contestants should be a bit strange as well." Specifically of Sanjaya's stint, he said, "The whole thing was hysterical. I don’t think I'd be happy if he was in the finals... but looking back, I thought he was quite amusing."

Might Blake pull an upset and win Idol? Vote here.

Simon seems to have a good grasp of the strengths and weaknesses of both contestants. Really, Randy and Paula add nothing to this show.,

It would have been Daughtry vs. McPhee and I would ahve liked Chris to win. But when your good, you sell records regardless.

MY thought is that we don't know that MORE people didn't vote for Melinda. Her fan base is not likely the type to spend two hours straight voting nonstop. It was that more people voted more times for the others. If AI were to limit the number of votes per person or phone, THEN there might be an honest outcome. I loved Melinda and voted several times for her, but I am not the sort that would spend two hours non stop texting or phoning.

I really don't want Blake to win. I was super hoping for Jordin and Melinda in the finals. I have loved Jordin from the start and will be pretty upset is Blake wins. I know he's a decent performer or whatever, and obviously it isn't the end of the road for second place... but I really would like to see the person I vote for a billion times make it through this season.

Yes I agree with some of the above coments. A lot of people I'm sure voted many times for Melinda, but don't forget those teenyboppers and tweens who lost Sanjaya, probably transferred their votes to Blake. I saw when they visited the three hometowns, that Blake had a humongous amount of fans, and so did Jordin. Not as many came out for Melinda. Now that does not mean she does not have as many fans, but her fans may be the older crowd who are working, or busy and no time to come and stand outside and wave. The younger crowd are more inclined to do so. Plus they will stay and text and text and vote and vote. But as someone said, think Jennifer Hudson. Melinda is going to do great. Can't wait to buy her CDs.

As to the grand finale, to be honest I really don't care either way who wins. I really wanted Melinda and Jordin in the finals, but with Melinda winning. I would like Jordin to win, because I prefer the type of music she sings plus I think she has a great, big voice. I'm not impressed with Blake. But it's the public voting and I'm not really interested in AI right now again. I feel kind of bored. I disagree with what someone above said about Randy and Paula not adding anything to the show. That's so not true. While Simon is a real "critic" and we enjoy his criticisms, Randy and Paula add their own style to the show and I think it would not be the same without their input.

Who care about what SC said!! The result has already been determined even before the show aired!

People who voted or going to vote are so naive to think that they can influence the vote!!

Everybody, stop complaining. All the top ten are great singers/entertainers!! I'm in the older generation, but I love the two Chris boys and am looking forward to Jordin and Blake rocking the house Tuesday and Wednesday nights. For explainable and inexplicable reasons, Melinda and LaKisha lost their holds on the lead. However, their futures are bright - so don't cry for them. I'm enjoying myself this year - you should, too!!
