Simon Baker, who in his first time around the dance floor with CBS portrayed The Guardian (and more recently costarred in the short-lived Smith), has signed on to front The Mentalist. As previously reported here, the drama pilot concerns a man who uses his heightened power of observation to help solve crimes.

According to Variety, Baker will be joined in the cast by Owain Yeoman (The Nine), Amanda Righetti (The O.C.), Shaun Toub and Tim Kang.

So this is a dramatic version of USA Network's Psych? Bet that took a lot of thought and planning.

That or 'The Sentinel Redux'. Maybe even a cross between the two. Either way, it's Simon Baker, I'm there. He and Johnny Lee Miller were my reasons for watching Smith, and I still miss Guardian.

I like Simon Baker, but just so I know what I'm getting into, what you're telling me is that this is Psych, Monk, and that show with Jeff Goldblum? Awesome.

Just1Thing, you forgot to add "Life". This show really sounds like all of the above, but I agree that anything with Simon Baker, I am there. I really missed him from The Guardian. That was one of the best lawyer series on TV. Why they axed it I don't know, but it was such a well-thought out show, and well acted by Simon and his co-actors. Bring it on, I'm waiting to see Simon again.

Rip major rip-off of "Psych" without the comedy. Still Simon Baker is so hot .... and a talented actor.

Why watch wooden, untalented Baker when I can watch 'Psych' instead?
Has CBS realy done every possible crime series in the world, that they now have to rip-off other shows?

Once again, this site manages to find the worst possible picture of the person in question. Is this some kind of policy? If so, why?

The Guardian was a very thoughtful show and Simon Baker was wonderful in it. Owain Yeoman struck me as a very interesting actor in "The Nine". I'll definitely check out this show ... hope it's good.
