Meet the new Jeremy Piven. Bobby Cannavale, an Emmy winner during his run on Will & Grace and an upcoming guest star on Cold Case, will play the epitome of a "wing man" as the star of ABC's Cupid pilot.

In Rob Thomas' update of his 1990s series of the same name, Cannavale is Trevor Hale, a guy who believes he is the Roman god of love and has been banished to Earth until he can secure ABC Studios a syndication deal match up 100 couples. — MWM

Can't we just bring back the original and try it again...maybe in a better time slot? It was one of the all-time great shows!

So Lily on Cold Case gets dumped again? I thought she was getting a guy this season.

getting a guy this season.

How about getting a cheeseburger and fries, maybe a little time in the sun? She's looking quite cadaver-like lately.

Re: Cupid. Any word who's taking Paula Marshall's place?

I love Bobby! He was great in Third Watch way back when! Rob and Bobby? I'm so happy!

He is so wrong for the part.

I'm going to have to agree with sillyd. The only person I could have seen replacing Jeremy Piven, and doing just as good of a job, was Ryan Reynolds.

Heres hoping Bobby and Rob can prove me wrong.

When I heard they were gonna make a new version of Cupid I couldn't imagine anyone living up to Jeremy Piven, but I was really hoping they'd find someone new I'd love as much in this role as him. Now I've lost all hope for the show. He's so wrong for that part. There's no way this will come close to the original for me. I might kinda like it but there's no way I'm gonna love it. I hope I'm wrong and I'm gonna be pleasantly surprised, but I doubt it.:(

Why bother? I never in a million years would have watched the original Cupid, were it not for Jeremy Piven taking the title role. I loved him in Ellen, so I gave Cupid a chance, and he made that show. It was wonderful, not at all as corny as it should have been, given the premise, and I was heartbroken when it was gone. Honestly, without Piven, why bother? (Although, I never thought of Ryan Reynolds, loved him in Two Guys and a Girl, and I could maybe see him pulling off the role). I love Bobby Cannavale, but I agree with everyone that he is wrong, wrong, wrong for this role. There are alot of things I would watch because Bobby is in them, but not Cupid. This is sad, and a disgrace to the original. They should have appreciated what they had before they lost it - they can't recreate the magic now.

When I saw the picture of who was going to be Cupid my heart actually sunk. He's an okay actor, but I agree that he seems really wrong for Cupid. I loved that show, so it would've been hard to see anyone in the Jeremy Piven role, but Bobby Cannabvale? No. I guess I won't watch it after all, which upsets me because I loved Veronica Mars & the original Cupid so I thought it would be a slam dunk for me.

I'm not familiar with Bobby Cannavale, so I will reserve judgment until I watch him on Cold Case. (BTW, how about a couple of chocolate malts for Lily to go with the cheeseberger and fries.)

I also loved the original Cupid because of Jeremy Piven (and I loved him on Ellen too).

Because Veronica Mars was one of my favorite shows, and this will be a Rob Thomas project, I would be inclined to give the new Cupid a chance.

Hopefully this is the right choice for the role. I'm not familiar with Bobby Cannavale's work, but he sure has big shoes to fill. Jeremy Piven was the perfect Trevor Hale.

I'm so happy to read that someone other than me watched that show. I was starting to think that it was a figment of my imagination. I loved that show. hope this one does well.

I like Cannavale, but I agree that he doesn't seem to fit the part. If they're going for the same off-kilter character that Piven played, that is. Maybe Bobby can do scruffy, crude, and oh-so-not what you'd expect from a god of love, but I dunno. Hopefully they're not going for more of a standard-issue leading man type for Cupid. However, since I loved the original, and Rob Thomas is involved, I'll certainly give it a try.
