Pilot News: Alicia Silverstone Is One Bad Mother
Alicia Silverstone by Jordan Strauss/ WireImage.com
It turns out that Alicia Silverstone is the mother. Just not that one. Previously rumored to be swinging by CBS' How I Met Your Mother in a recurring role and perhaps ultimately as the titular mom the Clueless star has instead landed the lead in the ABC pilot Bad Mother's Handbook.
The single-camera comedy centers on a 32-year-old woman juggling care of her 16-year-old daughter (Arrested Development's Alia Shawkat) and her 48-year-old mother. Everyone now re-read that last sentence and do the math lotsa babies having babies there! MWM

Why does a 48-year-old woman need taking care of?

Cindy, it's Hollywood. According to them, once a woman is past 40 she's knocking on death's door.
I hope this show turns out to be good. I love Alicia, and I want her to stick around this time. I know I'm in the minority, but I really liked Miss Match.

Frankly, the only thing that excites me about this story is that Alla Shawkat's got a series! I only hope it's a show that approaches the quality of Arrested Development. I'm very protective of my AD actors and I wince at the prospect of them leaping onto the first cookie-cutter piece of shlock that comes along (yes, I'm looking at you, Jeffrey Tambor)!!!
As for Alicia Silverstone, I haven't seen her in anything that makes me feel anything strong about her one way or the other (although Matt, your phrase "titular mom" made me sit up a little straighter)!!!

Dear Les Moonves: Amy Sherman-Palladino just called and she wants her show back.[1]
-- Rob
[1] By the way, she's been calling for around a year now. Please pick up the phone and work something out.

Yes, because we all know sluttiness skips a generation.
BTW, I don't know why this popped into my head, but my dreamcasting for the roles of the grandma and the great-grandmother? Gilda and Lily.

Nice comment... But,how is Les Moonves responsible for this show? I think you mean Stephen McPherson. Still, I laughed. Very funny. Oh, and yay for Alia Shawkat! With Mitch Hurwitz' animated show coming up complete with Bateman, Arnett and Winkler, it's good to see TV populated with as many Bluths/Fόnkes as possible.

Sounds like it might be pretty funny.

I love, love, LOVE Alicia Silverstone, so I'm happy to read she'll be getting another chance at a TV show. She deserves it.

Ummm ... I'm sorry, but isn't Stephen McPherson still ABC, not CBS? Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, it was a fantastic comment and a fabulous point. I LOVE Alicia and I would adore seeing her back on tv again, but this is awfully reminicent of our beloved Lorelais.

What's the confusion here? McPherson IS at ABC...which is where the Silverstone pilot is. Les Moonves, in fact, has nothing to do with it (funny, though the line was).
There seems to be a growing trend of people not paying attention today. What is this? National Don't Read The Whole Story Day?
