Out of Order: Adam Beach Bids SVU Adieu

Adam Beach is leaving Law & Order: SVU at the end of this season, as he and the producers have mutually agreed not to extend his option for a second season on the NBC procedural. "I very much enjoyed my year on Law & Order: SVU," Beach tells the Reporter. "Now I'm looking forward to new adventures."

Says overL&Ord Dick Wolf, who also worked with Beach on HBO's acclaimed Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, "Adam is a superb actor. He did a terrific job this season on SVU, and I look forward to working with him again in the near future."

Beach's news caps a wild week in which the departures of Gary Dourdan (CSI), Diane Neal (SVU) and Khandi Alexander (CSI: Miami) from their respective shows have been scooped by Ausiello. — MWM

What!?! This is getting crazy! First Diane Neal and now the lovely Adam Beach? I hope they fill their slots with some great actors.

Yeah - I am so happy! He is a terrible actor and I could not figure out why he was added to the cast (or has a career - he is so wooden. But then again - the same producer hired Elizabeth Rohn - the worst actor in the history of television.) How about giving Richard Belzer a bigger role? It seems his part was cut down so they could add Adam.

Or add another female detective.

Wow, the mass exodus continues. While I loved Adam in "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee", I never did get into Chester Lake...as for Belzer, I say someone hoodwink Clark Johnson into reprising Meldrick Lewis. I've been waiting nine years for someone to call Belzer "Munchkin", besides me....

If it means more screen time for Richard Belzer than I'm not sorry to see Adam Beach go.

How about giving Richard Belzer a bigger role?

Second that. And with Novak leaving, bring back Cabot.

I have lost interest in SVU the last couple of years. I tried to watch it twice this year but all I could focus on was the very stilted acting of Adam Beach. He even made Ice-T look like a gifted thespian.

I agree - more Belzer and bring in someone with some acting chops. I think snoopy-buddy had a great idea - after seeing Clark Johnson on The Wire this season it reminded me how much I enjoyed him on Homicide. Surely Meldrick could transfer up from Baltimore to NYC SVU?

Thank goodness! He may be an acclaimed actor but I was not impressed with his tenure on SVU. I wish him good luck with his future endeavors. Now maybe I'll get to see Munch and Fin again.

I have seen Adam Beach in other shows/ movies and he is a good actor. I wonder if the stiltedness that everyone comments on is due to the L&O director, and/or the way the character was to be played. Certainly, he was never given a good story line that he could develop. When Ice-T was first introduced, he too was a bit stilted.

I am also wondering if all these exits are not the financial fallout of the writer's strike? It would be interesting to know if the actors that are being fired (all whom play secondary roles except for Dourdan) were supportive of the strike. Whether it is a punitive action or not, it could be an economic "trimming of any extraneous fat" from shows' budgets.

I think he is a much better actor than he was allowed to be on SVU. Professionally, I think he made the right decision to move on.

Well, I do miss Much and Fin. I wish Mr. Beach all the success. He is a very fine actor and I hope he gets some good work. Good luck, we'll miss you...

Add me to the list that hopes this means more screen time for Beltzer.

I want more Munch too! Put Munch and Fin back together as they play off each other very well. This may give me hope for what was once one of my favorite shows. The last episode with Benson going undercover in a prison was pretty bad.
