Oprah and Friends Front New Oscars Special
ABC has inked a deal for Oprah Winfrey to host her own pre-Oscars interview special, Variety reports. Whereas Barbara Walters does the Q&Aing herself on her own annual chitchats, Oprah has recruited Academy Award winners Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and Jamie Foxx to each interview an Oscar winner they admire.
Ergo, the Pretty Woman will gab with BFF George Clooney, Kidman will kibbitz with fellow Aussie Russell Crowe, and Foxx will sit down with Sidney Poitier.
This special — which surely will feature "Oprah Winfrey Presents" somewhere in its title — will air Feb. 22 at 10 pm/ET, three days before this year's Oscars.

I don't mean to be negative to Babs, but the Oprah thing sounds more interesting to me.

You're right Cindy, that does sound interesting. I'm not a big Babs fan anyway.

ITA with the above, I especially cannot wait to see Julia Roberts Q&A Clooney.

Yes Matt, I think that will be the best of the interviews. With their history I'd think there would be a lot of humor there.

Far be it from me to stir anything up , but this smells to me as though ABC is auditioning Oprah to replace Barbara when her inevitable retirement rolls around.
I wonder if Barbara will choose to retire, or will "be retired"! Hmmm....

Yeah, that was just from regular hosting duties on 20/20. She still contributes to the show from time to time. She's still a "go-to" person if anything major happens in the ABC breaking news realm (such as a major death). Really, she's as active as she's ever been, except she doesn't say "we're in touch, so you be in touch" anymore.
