No Country for Old Men and Gone Baby Gone's Amy Ryan are the ones to beat this awards season. Take a look at the accolades issued this weekend:

The Boston Society of Film Critics
Best picture: No Country for Old Men (edging out The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by just a single vote)
Best director: Diving Bell's Julian Schnabel
Best actors: Frank Langella (Starting Out in the Evening) and Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose)
Best supporting actors: Javier Bardem (Old Men) and Amy Ryan

The D.C. Area Film Critics Association
Best picture: No Country for Old Men
Best director: The Coen brothers (Old Men)
Best actors: George Clooney (Michael Clayton) and Julie Christie (Away from Her)
Best supporting actors: Bardem and Ryan

Los Angeles Film Critics Association
Best picture: There Will Be Blood (which I am told is not based on the Saw movie tagline but some Upton Sinclair novel)
Best director: Paul Thomas Anderson (Blood)
Best actors: Daniel Day-Lewis (Blood) and Cotillard
Best supporting actors: Vald Ivanov (4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days) and Ryan

New York Film Critics Online
Best picture: There Will Be Blood and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (tie)
Best director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Best actors: Day-Lewis and Christie

What's your take? What's your current batting average at seeing any of the above?

Well, I've watched NC for OM, GBG, Away from Her (yawn!)and Michael Clayton. I want to watch there will be blood because I just can't figure out what it is about. Why not Ben Affleck as best director for GBG. I was stunned at how good it was.

Good for Amy Ryan. She's been great on The Wire, so it's great to see her get outside recognition for other work.

Haven't seen any of them... don't intend to see any of them. Hopefully when the Oscars come around this year, they will realize that if they want bigger ratings, they will have to nominate bigger films. I mean... whats the big deal if a blockbuster gets nominated (or its actors). They don't have to win... they just have to be nominated.

It is sad that no one remembers indy films that came out at the beginning of the year. For instance Tabu's performance in the Namesake was incredible.

I've seen No Country For Old Men and Michael Clayton. Very good.

Though not winning any awards (yet), I have also seen Atonement, which is a breathtakingly beautiful film.

I saw GBG. Amy Ryan was awesome! I mean, I didn't know who she was before the movie and she definitely stood out.

Michael Clayton was nothing that special.

What about Amy Adams? If she doesn't win the Golden Globe for Outstanding Actress in a Musical/Comedy, I would be shocked.

I have heard that the movie Juno should be seeing some noms like for screenplay and for Ellen Page for actress. I would like to see Michael Cera with a nom for this too, but that could be becasue I have not nor will I ever get over the cancellation of Arrested development!!!

As for the ones listed I really have only heard of a couple and I haven't seen any of them. I have heard Gone Baby Gone is really good. Which I would like to see Ben Affleck get some recognition for this. He has made it clear that he is running out of chances with this business because of all of the terrible decisions he has made. I always wanted things to turn around for him. He seems like a genuinely talented gut that made some mistakes. He needs to get some noms for this movie.

I don't know about a lot of people out there, but there hasn't been a ton of great movies. Any suggestions?

if you want to see a sweet movie with fantastic acting check out Waitress. It was wonderful. It probably will not win any awards-no blood-just a great story with talented actors.

Its a shame that 3:10 to Yuma came out so early in the summer. GBG is an excellent movie but I also think that 3:10 is a wonderful film as well. Bale and Crowe are excellent.

The only one on those lists that I have seen is No Country for Old Men, and I definitely think it is a great film, possibly the best ever from the Coens, and I have been a fan of their work from the very beginning. Bardem is great, but I was also impressed with the work of Josh Brolin.

I only heard of Gone Baby Gone and Michael Clayton. I never even heard of the other movies and I have NO intention of seeing them. If it isn't fantasy or sci/Fi, I really don't bother with movies. I'm a TV gal all the way!
