Now reporting this makes me sad, because Jenna is a favorite around here. The Office cutie Jenna Fischer and her screenwriter/director husband James Gunn have announced the end of their six-year marriage. In a statement posted on their respective MySpace pages, they share, "We are sorry for any pain this causes family and friends. The enthusiasm we have expressed for each other's lives, spirits and careers is real — we have been each other's cheerleader and friend... and continue to be so now and in the future."

Knowing how this Internet thing can be, the couple adds, "You might be tempted to make one of us 'feel better' by putting the other one down in a [message board] post. Please don't. We still have the utmost respect for one another, and we'd have to delete you."

Gunn directed his wife in the campy horror hit Slither.

Another one bites the dust :( Unfortunely I had a feeling that this would happen.

That's really sad. I hate it when people break up. I know Jenna often mentioned how great he was taking care of her after her back injury this summer. Maybe all of that "togetherness" brought some issues to a boil. Whatever happened, I wish them the best.

Maybe I'm just old or old-fashioned but I don't understand why people split up who still respect, admire, and like each other.

Usually I just roll my eyes at celebrity "news," but this one actually made me feel kinda sad.

What happened to the good old days when couples who reached this point simply cheated on each other instead of getting divorced...sigh......

This is so sad. They just always seemed so in love with each other. It is nice to see that they will remain friends though.

Sometimes people fall out of love. They may care very deeply for each other but staying in a loveless marriage can ultimately make you bitter and turn on the person whom you love for the impact they have made in your life, but that you are not "in love" with anymore. In situations like this it's best to get out before love turns to hate – thus, hopefully saving a worthwhile friendship . I wish them both the best.

OMG. I could not believe my eyes. I am so sad. I always read their MySpace posts and honestly thought they were a happy couple. I am so bummed out. However, I do wish both of them the very best.

I agree rfelgueiras ... also, sometimes people who love each other just find it difficult to live together. Whatever the reason for their split though, I am terribly sorry to hear about it and I'd like to say that I wish both Jenna and James the best!

It's very sad to see such a well-adjusted couple split, but better now than to wait until love turns to hate or worse, indifference. I commend them for the classy way they announced the breakup and I wish them both happiness.

Grow out of love? If you're that weak, you shouldn't get married.

Maybe so mtvcops, but it happens all the time.

I don't know either Jenna or James personally, but I do read their blogs on myspace and they both seem like really nice people and very down-to-earth. I'm sad for them, as this doesn't seem like a decision either of them would take lightly. I wish them both the best.

And people stick to their vows all the time, too.
