Lifetime Cracks Open Four More Nora Roberts Books

Peter Gruber's Mandalay Television and Stephanie Germain Production have inked a deal with Lifetime to develop six Nora Roberts romance novels into scripts, then choose four of them to produce as two-hour, $5 million TV-movies, says the Reporter.
Previously, Lifetime reaped immense ratings success with adaptations of Roberts' Montana Sky, Angels Fall, Blue Smoke and Carolina Moon, starring the likes of Heather Locklear, John Corbett, Diane Ladd and Jacqueline Bisset. Shooting on the new quartet is set to begin in the fall with an eye on spring 2009 premieres.

Considering the not-so-fab job they did with the last four, I'd personally like them to leave all my favorites alone and do something else.

I have to agree that none were handled particularly well. If they could capture the humor and character interaction from the Three Sisters Island trilogy, though, I'd be thrilled.

yeah - the movies really fall flat and don't transfer the romance, humor and subtleties that are so evident in Ms. Robert's writing.

Not that lifetime is reading this, but my ideal four would be (in order)
1.) Midnight Bayou (with added bonus of bringing jobs to New Orleans!)
2.) Hidden Riches (cause funny is good!)
3.) True Betrayals
4.) Private Scandals

Montana Sky is my favorite NR book, and I couldn't make it through the first scene the movie was so horrible. I wish they'd leave them all alone. I think it's funny that NR was really happy with all the movies and casting, when the fans were the ones upset!

I loved "Carolina Moon" but authors Barbara Delinsky and Iris Johansen are far more worthy of being adapted than Nora. Nora's books are terribly predictabe. I'd take Delinsky's "For My Daughters" and "Passions of Chelsea Kane" over all of Roberts' books.

I was disapointed by the movies, they felt flat, especially Montana Sky. I agree with Scullywant2b about the 3 sisters trilogy. Also her last book that came out, High Noon. That was a great book.

The Quinn Brothers series (sea swept, rising tides, inner harbor, chesapeake blue)--four brother, four movies...perfect!

I think the Circle Trilogy would make a great movie: Morrigan's Cross (September 2006) Dance of the Gods (October 2006) Valley of Silence (November 2006)

Like so many others here have expressed, the last four movies, and I believe there were two more before those, all fell flat. I think they tried, but there's just not enough time in a two hour movie to cover the richness of the characters and stories in a Nora Roberts novel. My greatest wish? If they're serious about spending $5 Mill for four 2 hours movies, why not make two four hour miniseries? Allow themselves more time to tell the stories right.

I like the idea of 2 miniseries portraying Public Secrets and Sweet Revenge. They both had epic and sexy storytelling.
The trilogies tend to be repetitive and require a lot of editing, which is why Montana Sky didn't work out so well in 2hr movie form. Like, I'd love to see the MacGregors on screen, but they'd probably come out worse than Highlander 2.
For the single shot books: the Villa, Genuine Lies, Midnight Bayou, and Northern Lights seem like LMW's speed.

I guess I go in to watching the movies with a more cynical approach. I don't expect it to be exactly like the book, so I'm not disappointed. With that frame of mind, I'm actually surprised by how much I like the movies because I don't expect them to be like the book.
The four I would choose are: The Villa, Three Fates, Northern Lights and Genuine Lies. Of course, they could always do the Circle Trilogy too, or the Key trilogy and I would be happy.

I'm an avid Nora Roberts fan. It's difficult for me to separate the books from the movies as I've re-read them numerous times. Lifetime did a HORRID job with Angels Fall, and most especially Montana Sky(the only way to have done it justice was to have a mini series). Blue Smoke and Carolina Moon were decent enough, I suppose.
According to Nora's publicist, the following are the books in consideration, 4 of which will be chosen: Tribute High Noon Northern Lights Midnight Bayou True Betrayals Carnal Innocence
Tribute is her new hardcover due out this summer; True Betrayals and Carnal Innocence are TWO of my favorites, so I hope THEY are NOT chosen. High Noon would make a good movie, as the romance was very WEAK in that particular book, as was Northern Lights (ALASKA was the story). I didn't really like MB (heroine just irked me beyond the pale, and the hero was just TOO NICE)--I liked the paranormal backstory MUCH better.

I'd love to see something from the Quinn series and the Three Sisters Trilogy. Or the Morrigans cross series.
